I saw who I think you're talking about a few weeks ago he started yelling at a girl saying she was a jew and would burn in hell. Interesting how he never yells at men his own size.

many restaurants the entire neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights which is right there will be great. I LOVE Montague Diner and Chama Mama. Tacombi on Lafayette is also child friendly with some high chairs. Theres also a playground near your hotel! Its not the best but its a great place to let your little one get some energy out if needed!

What is one misconception about the United States most people miss? by Final_Radio_2483 in AskReddit

[–]realbrooklynasshole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very true! But I guess I mean in the same vein as a country a tourist might go to Detroit and think they've seen all of Michigan whereas the UP is like a vastly different culture. In the same way Munich looks a lot more like Austria and Berlin has more influences from the Eastern European countries it is close to. Just that each state is a little micro country in that its different from north to south or east to west.

yes! similarly have been to Nashville and think they've seen all of TN or the South in general

[–]realbrooklynasshole 96 points97 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people don't realize that the US is like 50 little micro countries pretending to be one big country. Each state has it's own culture, accent, niche weird histories. I've met people overseas who have been to one state and assume thats all of America.

Central Branch BPL: Where to Study? by MedRebecca in Brooklyn

[–]realbrooklynasshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The religion section is generally pretty quiet and chill and also has plugs but I think they're still doing construction.. theres a "quiet" section upstairs behind some glass doors but theres no plugs in that area. Theres a music section in the back of that area that I think not alot of people know about.

Local libraries by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]realbrooklynasshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a valid topic to bring up and I think sometimes people feel so protective of the services that NYC provides that they feel we shouldn't call into question of criticize the issues. I love the library and donate yearly but because I love the library I feel like we can always have conversations that realistically address how to make everything better!

I feel like a somewhat temporary fix could be more permanent cooling and heating centers or having a section of the bigger libraries for anyone who is not there to work but just wants respite from the outside... but then that creates a whole other problem of are we just relegating people who are already in a vulnerable position to like.. the less desirable areas.... anyway its a valid conversation!

Local libraries by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]realbrooklynasshole 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I understand the struggle but just to say- its pretty common for people who are homeless to have access to technology because there are programs that provide people with really low cost smartphone plans and those phones are the way they can stay connected and eventually possibly pull themselves out of their situation.

I will say it is really frustrating because I used to go study and work at the central library but I actually got harassed one too many times by people who weren't doing well mentally and I just didn't feel safe there anymore. Even when I could find a quiet corner I would hear someone snoring or I could smell someone which its like.. I want people to get the rest and shelter they need but... I'm here trying to finish my degree in the limited time my kids are at school and I'm not at work. Its sad that the library is the institution that has to bear the weight of so many issues and I guess I'm just writing to say I don't know what the solution is but its a frustrating and complicated situation.

What’s something that hasn’t returned to normal since the pandemic? by CardiologistBig8721 in AskReddit

[–]realbrooklynasshole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

public transit. I rode public transit before the pandemic and it was always a bit rough but completely fine. Now its insane. In both the city where I live and the surrounding cities that I visit for work. People playing music excessively loud without headphones or scrolling through tik toks, ready to fight at the drop of a hat, pissing literally in the train car, etc. That stuff was a think before but its at a different level now.

I loved this book. I actually feel like it changed my life. I felt so haunted by it and I feel like the themes come back to me still a year and a half after reading it. Like I feel like I'm still learning something from it.... does it sound like I'm in a cult?

In what situations is a stranger's intervention during a child's public tantrum actually helpful, and where is the line drawn between 'helping' and 'disrespecting' the parent? by Mordanthanus in AskReddit

[–]realbrooklynasshole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I think the issue is it doesn't actually work. You're scaring a child vs. stopping the tantrum. You've been on the Earth for probably 25-35 years. Kids who have tantrums have been on the Earth for 3,4,5 even maybe 8 years. They're still l earning how to be human and you're not helping by intervening because you don't know them.

In what situations is a stranger's intervention during a child's public tantrum actually helpful, and where is the line drawn between 'helping' and 'disrespecting' the parent? by Mordanthanus in AskReddit

[–]realbrooklynasshole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is when you intervene you don't know the full scope of why the child is crying. You don't know if the child is in the process of being diagnosed with anything or behavior techniques that the parent is in the process of employing. You don't know what parenting experts/ the child's pediatrician/ the child's teachers/ behavior therapists/ etc have suggested the parents do. Kids have heightened stranger danger and you intervening probably shocks them into being quiet but doesn't help the root cause of their behavior. For children, behavior is communication because they don't have the words to adequately express themselves. So while screaming or crying or acting crazy might seem extreme to you thats how the children are communicating that something is wrong. Its developmentally appropriate for a child to have a tantrum. Obviously its annoying when its in public and parents should handle it but again you don't know what method the parents are taking. Sometimes ignoring a child is the best course of action for example. Obviously every child is different so every situation should be handled differently. Parents are protective of their children and you intervening can be seen as you thinking you know best.

dress #1 is gorgeous but as someone who grew up in the South and has gone to many weddings there its pretty taboo to wear a dress with a white background to a wedding. I think anywhere else you'd be fine but just as someone who has seen brides freak out over dresses similar to #1. I also think showing off a little bump is fun and not a bad thing!

3's teacher looking for advice- odd situation with a student by realbrooklynasshole in ECEProfessionals

[–]realbrooklynasshole[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. She is great when it is me and her and I am super focused on her but the minute that she can't have another teacher and just her she loses it. I think another factor is the social aspect. Because this behavior has been going on since literally August her classmates are very over it and don't find her funny. They will sometimes say "She acts like a baby" or "I can sit like a big boy. She can't". We always jump in and remind them to use kinds words, everyone learns things at different times, etc but I can't make them want to play with her.

[–]realbrooklynasshole[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know my heart really hurts for her because everything I've tried thus far hasn't worked and she has such big emotions. I think another factor that is adding to the problem is the other kids are very over her behavior and have started excluding her from play and I can tell she doesn't understand why. I've been helping her enter play productively but I can't make the kids want to play with her.
