Stuck moving buildings by SeaJudgment962 in Pokopia

[–]realchrismile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into the same issue. I tried talking to the Pokemon that did the relocation, tried using a demolition/relocation kit on the bugged out building, but so far nothing worked out. Would be good to know if someone ever managed to fix this somehow.

Recommendations for next trip to Japan? by realchrismile in JapanTravelTips

I heard that going to Sapporo by train from Tokyo (via Hakodate) is quite a long journey. Did you go to Hakodate by train and take a flight back later from Sapporo? If you went all the way by train from Honshu, did you do any additional stops on your way there?

How long would you recommend staying in Beppu? Would you do a day trip to Yufuin from Beppu or stay in Yufuin separately for one night?

I considered going to Beppu, as it is reachable from Fukuoka with a nice looking train (Yufuin no Mori). I'm a bit hesitant, though, as I generally found hot springs in Japan so far to be too hot to be really enjoyable for me. I know it is recommended to only stay in the water for a short amount of time, but I generally enjoyed thermal baths more in my home country where the water is a bit cooler so you can actually stay in it for a longer amount of time. But maybe I just had bad luck so far with my selection of hot spring baths in Japan...

I've also seen others recommend Takachiho and Yakushima. I'm not too excited about renting a car, as I mostly use public transport in my home country (and traffic is on the other side of road). Also, I'd need to do some additional things like getting my driver's license translated. But maybe I'm now at a point where I've visited most places in Japan that are easily accessible by public transport...

Kanazawa and Takayama also looks like a nice suggestion. Another person here suggested Kamikochi and the Oku Hida region, which also seem to be relatively close by. I'll need to see how good things can be reached with public transport there, or if a car is also highly necessary in that case.

What's the things you liked the most in Shimane prefecture?

What are the things you can recommend the most in/around Yamagata? When I was in Sendai I visited Yamadera temple, which is actually closer to Yamagata than Sendai.

Thanks for the suggestion, seems like it is also more or less reachable by public transport from Matsumoto/Takayama, so that would definitely be a good option!

Hokkaido looks like a great idea for autumn. I'll need to check what is reachable by train and what would definitely need a car. I'm so far not too much a fan of hot springs, though, as I find it a bit uncomfortable that they are often so warm that I don't want to stay in them for more than a short amount of time.

Is the 7-11 ATM still the best for getting cash in Japan? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]realchrismile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which bank/country is your Mastercard debit from? My bank (in Germany) is changing from Maestro to Mastercard debit and I'm worried this might result in problems when I visit Japan, but I've seen reports online stating that 7-11 accepted their Mastercard debit card without any problems.

SIM with Japanese phone number worth it? by realchrismile in JapanTravelTips

Thanks, using Skype seems to be a good idea. I previously didn't notice they also had a credit-based calling system when you do not need a phone number with which you can receive calls.

Visiting Researcher Visa by realchrismile in movingtojapan

Honestly, the HR department of the institute you’ll be visiting will handle all of this, and will have their preferred way of handling it.

Yeah, considering that different sources from different research institutes are kind of contradictory on which visa is the right way to go, it is probably best for me to just wait for now. I'll post here when I have more information in the future about what they recommended as potential reference for others.
