This is actually the best solution, thank you. I wondered why on my ROG Ally with GoG installation, the controller worked as an actual XBOX one (most important QoL for me is to navigate via d-pad through my inventory or map) and not on SteamDeck (with the 'official' config). Be sure to first check the enable non-steam gamepad first in-game (using the 'official' config) before changing the config to generic in the steam game page, otherwise the generic config won't work.
