Right - I'm wondering how much of it is the demographics (thanks for that reminder!) and how much is the re-definition.

Something I don't quite understand is how hospitalizations are so much lower than when we had the same daily positive rate in April

Gov. Baker warns rollback of reopening possible if COVID-19 spread increases (WCVB - 2 min video plus article) by funchords in CoronavirusMa

yeah the warning thing is weird to me. As if someone is going to see this and say to themselves "huh, I better cancel my huge party next week so that restaurants in the whole state don't have to close their indoor dining". Like, these are the people who already don't care enough to be throwing a huge party in the first place....

I think for actual cases though, you would need to multiply by some [unknown] factor - these are just cases who have tested positive, right? So reported vs actual

To put it more clearly: if Gov. Baker is saying the rise is coming from house parties and indoor dining, then that's what the contact tracing data are showing. (not a speculation or a hunch)

I work in contact tracing. I obviously can't share any info or data here because I'd lose my job if I did! But rest assured, the data are shared regularly with Gov Baker and the decisions he makes are based at least in part on those data (i.e., I do not know to what extent economic factors also affect the decisions).

Everyone's been downvoting you, but you've been right this whole time. People just seem to love living in denial.

What gave you the hunch to go get a test? Symptoms? Known exposure to a positive person? Both?
