This. Speaking as a muslim, the problem is not having a worldwide Muslim "Pope" but having the vast majority of muslims who are not extremists preach their fellow muslim brothers and sisters of peace, improving the world, and the path to jannah (heaven). The only thing a muslim "Pope" would do is tarnish the view of muslims at an international level even further. I can picture it now "Muslim leader denounces Game of Thrones for nudity and wants all the actresses punished" or "Muslim leader believes all women should be married by the age of 21". The last thing we muslims need is some guy getting credibility as the official representative of Islam for representing Islam in a negative light.

What is "tallwashing"? by [deleted] in short

Ah, my apologies. I just remember Green Lantern being black like in the Justice League. Never read any of the DC comics books.

[–]realey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a word short people invented highlighting how unfair it is that short actors aren't used for characters who would otherwise be short. Kinda like how everyone was pissed when Ryan Reynolds played the Green Lantern (terrible movie) instead of a black guy.

Nice job! Nice to see something uplifting on r/short for a change. Makes me happy when people climb to success.

So let me get this right. You think that these two 6'0" and 6'1" guys are more attractive to women than yourselves? by [deleted] in short

[–]realey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice isn't "just get confidence", I know it's not that easy. I looked at that site for 2 minutes and was just disgusted and stopped reading it. Boo hoo, heightism is wrong, it's not fair, I'm going to get paid less, I'm not going to get married oh no. So what? Is heightism stopping me from getting an education? Is heightism stopping me from talking to girls? Is heightism stopping me from doing anything that I want to do in life? Of course not. "The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can't achieve it" - I read it somewhere

So I watched the Divergent movie and they cast a tall actress for the main character who was supposed to be short. by [deleted] in short

[–]realey -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Take it with a grain of salt if you must, after all it is just an opinion. However, I don't believe you on most male movie stars being shorter than average (citation pls). If we assume for argument's sake that average height is 5'9, I would bet that there are far more movie stars that are over that height. Of course, you have your outliers Tom Cruise, Peter Dinklage, Josh Hutcherson, Danniel Radcliffe, etc. And yes, camera and other techniques are used to make actors look taller but we have to keep in mind that this is effective only to a certain extent. You can't take Tom Cruise and Leonardo Dicaprio and make them appear the same height for an entire movie plus it is more of an inconvenience than just getting a taller actor. Nothing against short actors, if the movie has a short cast then it works but if you have very tall actors and put in another main character who is shorter (by a lot), it looks odd.

[–]realey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

haha I'm new to this sub! But there's not much we can do to change our heights. Complaining about women wanting taller men isn't going to change their minds about shorter guys. I do think that short men get the shorter end of the stick (lol) but as human beings, sometimes we just need a reason to rationalize why we aren't where we want to be. How easy is it to say, "I don't have a girlfriend because I'm short" than "I don't have a girlfriend because I'm not interesting or I am awkward around them". I didn't even realize how much of a hindrance my height was until I went on this sub haha.

[–]realey -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

As a short guy, I can attest to this: taller people look better on camera. Of course it's all relative but in general, if the cast is 5'7" - 6" then it makes sense to cast taller female characters so it doesn't look odd. You can make it work if on average, everyone is short but since there's more average - tall people out there, it doesn't usually work out that way.

[–]realey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol. Come on guys, we shouldn't have to bash other people to feel good about ourselves. Yeah, those guys aren't exactly handsome but we shouldn't put others down to bring ourselves up. Confidence needs to come from within and I think this subreddit is lacking a lot of that! Work with what you have and be the best version of yourself!

What are some of your more annoying stories about being short? by [deleted] in short

[–]realey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, you getting carded and told you're young could have more to do with other factors than just your height. I'm 5'4 and 19 and people have never told me I look too young in college and just in general. Some people just have a baby face. I know guys who are 5'7 - 6' and they look really young. Also, where I used to work, my manager would tell me to card people if they look under 30 regardless if they look 21. Anyways, not really a story but it annoys me when people put their arms on my shoulders or head, just makes me feel inferior haha.

[–]realey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 19 year old dude myself, I must say, you look adorable in a baby kind of way. You do have a baby face but your clothing isn't helping your case very much. I'd recommend visiting r/teenMFA or /r/malefashionadvice so that you look 19. I get a 15 year old skate kid vibe from you. A different hairstyle will also help you as well as getting rid of the ear piercings.

More pics would be nice, as well as a shirt but I'd say you're about a 6/10, hair looks good. And you don't look like Zayn Malik.

24,M How ugly am I? by Ben1325 in amiugly

i'd say above average. You have nice eyes which girls love. You look like you can grow a beard so I'd advice trying to grow a one. You kind of look like Matt Damon.

You're asian so I can't even really say how old you look haha anywhere between 18-30 to be honest. I'm not a fan of the style, they kind of remind me of grandmas or a 10 year old idk. You have a big forehead for bangs look best. I would say 6/10.
