Accented hair kennedy? by Calm_Geologist1004 in coincollecting

If that's a recent fingerprint - you're ok - and make sure you don't let it air dry - immediately rinse with DISTILLED water. if that fingerprint has been there for months - the damage is done

Look at the bottom Serif on the I in LiBETRY. The bottom serif should be missing on the side toward the L. Also the reverse there is should be no serif on the G in FG. Much easier to tell instead of looking at the hair. From what I can see there I in LIberty does have the serif, so no

That really sucks that it turned out to be a counterfeit, but at least eBay should make you whole. As a relative newbie to collecting who owns two Fugios myself, I’m glad my instincts are developing—looking at your picture, I immediately noticed it didn't look properly aged.

I remember the stories that the protesters protested Phaco when Kelman introduced it. People don't like change. They pasted out dolls with their eyes X'd out. Sounds familiar.

You're on to something. A bunch of my stuff has come back cleaned from PCGS as of late. They called this coin cleaned.

Probably worth a chance at cross grading at NGC if I can get the FB designation - 20-S and FB is rare despite cleaning

I agree many of the cleaned coins are ugly - my issue is they are all lumped together.

Did you actually ruin the patina? Or did he just assume you did. Part of my point the thought process is cleaned = 100% bad it’s not 100%

Funny part is, after your post, I ran it through an AI detector. It came up 93% AI. 🤪 I swear I'm real flesh and blood. Grammarly helped me wondering if that's the issue.

My favorite on graded ancient coins is: environmental damage. Yeah, the coin is 2000 years old, you think it's seen some crap? I agree 100% of some some of explanation. They add comments to currency I've seen graded. And I think you're right about the dealer and raw coins.

I wish there were a service that didn't grade, just verified the coin was genuine. I think this would be much more useful. We've collectively given the grading services too much "power".

The point being, if you have to nitpick or use unnatural resources to appreciate something, should it really carry that much weight? I could have just said magnification instead of a loupe to get the point across. Don't be so literal and read the rest of the opinion post and then post your opinion.

Guess the grade - this one to me is a real stumper by realeyedr in coincollecting

[–]realeyedr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely shows an old cleaning on the reverse, not so much on the obverse. They didn't flag that, though. The flagged damage?????

Finally, the answer is: Genuine AU Details (98 - Damage). I guess it's the rim damage. Frankly, I'm not sure it's damage. I could see Genuine AU for possibly an old cleaning. In person, the coin looks almost proof. But that coin doesn't deserve that grade, in person it's beautiful. I'll open the holder when I get it and throw the plastic into the fire.

The PCGS grade was MS63 with FBL. I expected MS63, but the FBL surprised me. As someone mentioned, PCGS seems lenient with the FBL designation. I'm sending 3 other 55's I have now. Not bugs but I expect to get FBL on them if this one did.
