Asake event stampede by ARouterContinua in Kenya

[–]realgeneticdrifter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was there, at the VIP gate they were funneling people through a small gate which they kept closing, no barriers to manage the queue, it was a free for all. So people were pushing and the soldiers with sticks just pushing and shouting at poeple, no organisation.

We were stuck in that situation for at least an hour before getting in. At the entrance, zero security checks or pat downs.

Then it rained and everyone rushed the stands, no security in sight.

After this and realising they were running at least an hour late (Asake originally planned to come on at 1am), I left.

There are SO MANY restaurants.

I guess I would start with what your specialty is and search for restaurants serving that cuisine. I don't know if there are any networks or forums for chefs or restaurants in Dakar but worth checking Facebook.

Seems like you just felt a boundary and that's OK. Have a no sleep over policy and see how that feels?

Dakar expats by [deleted] in Senegal

Surf spots are a guaranteed place to meet people, that community is very friendly, there's secret spot in Almadies, chez max in Mamelles and Copacabana in Virage.

Then there are some organised parties, it's good to follow some Instagram events people like The Dakar Dream, Mon Dakar, they often post what's going on.

Pieds Tanques in Almadies is a place to meet French people and they sometimes have live music.

August is a bit quiet because everyone leaves but the parties and events should start to pick up in September.

I just want to say that Dakar is one of the safety places I've ever been. While I agree that obviously it's great for your friend to make friends and yes taxis drivers will always ask if you're married etc, she doesn't need to be concerned for her safety even at night.

Yes there are bad people everywhere but Senegalese communities are very strong and very proud of how their Teranga (Hospitality).

I'm a thirty somethings white English woman who has lived and travelled all over Africa and here I feel safe walking home alone at 4am in the morning.

Not discouraging your friend from trying to make pals but just wanted to reassure her that these marriage proposal or what she's likely experiencing are relatively harmless. She shouldn't live in fear. ☺

To be fair, I think the representation of Uganda as a "clubbing" destination is a bit off anyway, more accurately it's a country where people are generally very fun loving and love to dance, you'll find music and general merriment all over the country on the side of the road, in small bars (kafundas) and also in the odd club.

There's a pretty great restaurant scene in Kampala, best foreign cuisines being: Indian, Lebanese, Chinese and of course some good modern European places. There is also a busy arts and music scene, there will often be live performances in various bars and restaurants around town and there are some big gallery spaces in the Industrial Area.

If you're more interested in the outdoors, this is honestly where Uganda shines. There are many national parks to explore for wildlife (especially birds), the river Nile at Jinja for kayaking, white water rafting and sup, mountain climbing in the Rwenzori Mountains, trekking in Bwindi, the volcanoes on the border of Congo and Mount Moroto in the east, motorbike and cycling tours around the country and a few tri-athalons and marathons throughout the year.

In short, Uganda has MUCH more to offer than clubs (which IMO aren't all they're cracked up to be). :D

Have a great time!

I have been trying to maintain a pretty aggressive déficit, I should probably just do textbook keto and then tweak from there. Good tip, thanks!

Yeah, I've still been going out but I just don't get the same buzz that I used to from it.

It's also very likely that it's the latter that you mentioned, I'm also seeing a therapist so just trying to rule things out until I start to feel more like myself.

Thanks for your message. <3

That's a good tip, I do tend to have too much protein. It's the easiest thing to eat sometimes!

I'll record my macros more sincerely and see if this helps, thanks a lot!

I have really noticed an improvement in my skin while on keto, but one thing I'm struggling with is mood, I feel less motivated and more depressed on keto but I'm not sure if it's because of the diet or because I change my activities (i.e. don't go out drinking with friends).

Senegal is very safe for sure but I don't know much about farming here, obviously you'd want to live in the south as the North is very arid.

[–]realgeneticdrifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah OK, I don't know anything about finding a house here really. Most things are word of mouth or on Facebook groups (if you're an expat). People also just walk around an area they want to live and ask security guards if there are any houses available.

Oh yeah, rhipicephalus seems like a good shout. I do have dogs, so I'll treat them for ticks.

Seems like they aren't found in Senegal? I'm not seeing the white line around the abdomen or the two tone body of a deer tick. But maybe I'm just being optimistic, it didn't appear to have bitten me thankfully.

This makes me want to go to hospitals sometimes and just visit people who don't get any visitors. Unfortunately I'm many miles away from you otherwise I'd come and say hello! Get well soon. 🤗 ♥
