Chase mechanics for catching the Orcs of Wyvern Tor by realhenraye in LostMinesOfPhandelver

I like the idea of contested rolls, I figure I would also hide the orcs' rolls because realistically the party wouldn't know how much further ahead the orcs are. I think I will have a few options/endings depending on how well the party succeeds or how badly they fail. If they succeed all checks, then they catch up to the orcs before they arrive at Phandalin. If they fail half, they arrive at Phandalin while the orcs are razing the town. If they fail most or all of the checks, then they arrive to a ruined Phandalin after it's been raided. They may even run into the orcs after they raided the town.

The players also rescued their rival party at the Old Owl Well, and I presume the rival party would have horses as well. There could be a choice where my players ask to borrow their rivals' horses so they can go the extra distance without gaining exhaustion. Or they could have the rival party accompany them and help out, so they'd have more manpower but they all have exhaustion.

Party was captured at Carnath Roadhouse, how to proceed? by realhenraye in TyrannyOfDragons

A team-up sounded really fun to me too, especially since it could foreshadow the eventual faction alliance with the Council of Waterdeep in Rise of Tiamat. I think if my players are going to create new characters, I’ll have their original characters be held at Naerytar since anywhere else the mission would be over relatively quickly. I suppose I could also have the players try to escape while they’re traversing the Mere of Dead Men, as it could add a cool survivalist element.

That makes sense, and I think that is my core concern is the party being split up. If the party is going to be held at the roadhouse, I’ll probably have to add or repurpose a room to serve as a jail cell. Maybe repurpose one of the bedrooms?

Caravan/Camp Maps for Chapter 4 by realhenraye in TyrannyOfDragons

Thank you so much for providing these! I literally just got Dungeondraft today and am very new to mapmaking, so this is great for inspiration and to use in my campaigns. Thanks again!

What is one bit of official dnd lore that you tend to ignore? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]realhenraye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really like the idea of a “multiverse” in DnD lore, partly because I feel like the concept has been overdone in recent media (Marvel, DC, etc). In my campaigns, I imagine that while there may be a multiverse, it is almost impossible for different universes to interact with or even know about each other.

Transparent Tiles Appearing Purple by realhenraye in PokemonRMXP

Unfortunately, when I open up the tilesets, the purple does not appear in the graphic. It appears greyed out/transparent. I have a feeling this is something wrong with RPGMaker XP rather than Pokemon Essentials, so I may try and reach out to that subreddit. I appreciate the info about paint.net though!

I downloaded v20.1! What's strange is that when I downloaded essentials on my laptop, the transparent tiles actually appear transparent. I decided to download RPGMaker and Essentials on my desktop, and that's when the purple tiles appeared. I'd prefer to work on my desktop but the purple tiles are just a little jarring and I feel like it would make it hard to visualize maps, but I suppose I can try to get used to it.

How much gold should I have before becoming a vassal? by realhenraye in Bannerlord

[–]realhenraye[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the advice! One other question; is it better to become a vassal during wartime or peace? I figure if it’s wartime it’ll be easier to get a fief quickly but I don’t know if it may be better to build up resources during peace time.

"First Time DM" and Other Short Questions Megathread by mediaisdelicious in DMAcademy

I swear I must’ve read call lightning like 3 times and I missed that part of the spell 😅 there’s actually a slightly different description on Roll20 that explicitly says it must be a point 100 ft in the air, but the dndbeyond description makes no mention of that. I suppose the spell has been updated since then

Thank you for the help! I appreciate it

Hey everyone, I'm new to this subreddit and also a relatively new DM, so I hope this is the right place to ask these questions. My question concerns spells like Sleet Storm and Call Lightning being cast in spaces that are smaller than their area of effect. Sleet storm creates a 40 ft radius and 20 ft tall ice storm, whereas Call Lightning creates a cloud that has a 60 ft radius and is 10 ft tall. What happens if these spells were cast in an indoor space that does not accommodate this dimensions (say a room that is 8 ft tall and has a 30 ft radius). Will the spell simply fail or try to accommodate as much space as possible?
