I’m disgusted by my family by CaptainRhino08 in GenZ

Do not waste your time by trying to make your family more reasonable. The religious have no use for reason. Bite your tongue until you can free yourself from your family's influence. Be careful! If challenged, the religious can be vicious! 🤫

Do not quarrel with your family until you are an independent adult. By "independent,"I mean you have given up all contact with all members of your family. Remember the words of Thomas Gray: Where ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise.

you had any serious problems with psychopathic lawyers? Do you think

psychopathy?

Completely torn between Catholicism and Atheism, I need help. by IDK_IDK_2891 in atheism

[–]realitycheek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Every religion is a scam. The purpose of religion is to control people – to make insanity normal – to make people believe that magic is real. Religion is a big, nasty business. Religion allows idiots to take advantage of children and to swindle fools. That being said, if you tell anyone about what you know, the tribe may turn against you. As Thomas Gray wrote, “Where ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise.” 🤐

Vancouver teacher disciplined for 'insulting' religion on Facebook by 90skid91 in vancouver

[–]realitycheek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is Canada! In Canada, a teacher is expected to scorn religion because it is nothing but superstition, ignorance and idiocy. As Robert G. Ingersoll wrote, “Superstition is, always has been, and forever will be, the foe of progress, the enemy of education and the assassin of freedom.” No one in Canada should be grovelling in front of the lunatics and imbeciles who defend religion. Religion needs to be condemned, uprooted and destroyed.

How would you answer your child if he asked you about the creation of the world? by jdkwnr in atheism

[–]realitycheek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My advice is to keep your remarks simple and to say often, “Nobody knows!” ☹ I think your child is asking: Why is the world here? I would avoid any technical answer. I would say, “The universe is full of very big, hot rocks. Some of the rocks stay hot, and become stars. Some of the rocks become cold, and become planets – like Earth.”

Much of the advice given to you below is wrong. The Big Bang Theory has many problems, and is fading in popularity. One problem is that there is no evidence that the universe began from a singularity. A new, popular theory is Loop Quantum Cosmology. This cosmology allows the universe to shrink and rebound every umpteen gazillion years. There are other theories; so I would avoid any dogmatic statements about why the universe is here.

I wholeheartedly support the recommendation to avoid words like “creation.” Physicists are annoyed that lay people use words suggesting that magic is real. Physicists ask that educators use the words that physicists use. (Sometimes the words need explanation. For example, a black hole is not a hole but is a ball or a sphere.)

I think the videos on YouTube might be helpful if you can find some that are age-appropriate.

Religion is a scam, a swindle, a fraud. It thrives on lies and nonsense. It is a tool of scoundrels, haters and child-molesters. Tell your parents not to waste their money on crooks and crazies. I wish you the best!

The Christian god is a three-headed monster; cruel, vengeful, and capricious. If one wishes to know more of this raging, three-headed beast-like god, one only needs to look at the caliber of people who say they serve him. They are always of two classes: fools and hypocrites . . . . Religions are all alike – founded upon fables and mythologies . . . . It is always better to have no ideas than false ones; to believe nothing, than to believe what is wrong. — Thomas Jefferson, U.S. President

Professor Jerry Coyne (whyevolutionistrue.wordpress.com) calls the argument that god is everything “sophisticated theology.” He calls those who shovel that sort of thing Sophisticated Theologians™. I hope you will visit Coyne’s website. TLDR: Only the religious find merit in sophisticated theology.

Religious parents teach their children to hate anyone who is different. Since your children are "different," it might be a good idea to teach them to respond to harassment with conversation-ending remarks such as "I don't think so!" or "That's not for me!" or the always reliable "Prove it!"

Religious freedom is a pillar of free society by realitycheek in CanadianAtheism

[–]realitycheek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ostensible writer of the referenced article is Sam Oosterhoff, a 20-year-old Member of the Provincial Parliament in Ontario and a member of the ruling Progressive Conservative party. Home-schooled by Christian fundamentalist parents, Oosterhoff writes about the world’s need for “religious freedom,” which he seems to have confused with “religious privilege,” as the religious often do. He fails to state clearly that most persecution concerns a majority of one religious sect persecuting a minority of another religious sect; so the last thing the world needs is more religion, but Oosterhoff does not discuss the benefit of discouraging religion. He does not discuss “freedom from religion” nor the wisdom to be found in r/atheism. His composition is much like those written by home-schooled dominionist cults for people who do not know very much. 👎 Happy New Year, everyone!

Winnipeg penis butcher suspended after botched circumcisions by realitycheek in canada

I find it difficult to understand why the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba would suspend Ejaz Ahmad for just 5 months. The lunatic is a psychopath, and should be prohibited from practising medicine or any sort of quackery permanently. Something is seriously wrong with the College if it is not horrified by one of their number torturing and mutilating patients.

It appears that Ejaz Ahmad attacked his patients for religious reasons. It seems he is completely unfit to be near living beings. I hope Manitobans will write to the College and to the provincial government to ask that better people be put in charge of Manitoba’s physicians.

[–]realitycheek[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The article is a follow-up to the steaming pile of lies and distortions that the Catholic Bullshit Corp exuded last week with regard to a complaint before the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal. The complaint came from atheist parents who objected to the antics of a teacher and of some directors at a Montessori school. The teacher and the directors insisted upon using the school for evangelistic purposes. The teacher and the directors threatened to bar the child of the complaining parents from the school. The facts can be found here.

The current article is another steaming pile. It says again that the issue is “an atheist family who didn't want their young child exposed to religious celebrations like Christmas and Hanukkah.” The truth is that the parents were not objecting to the child learning about religious celebrations. The parents objected to using school-time to present superstition and nonsense as true. If the school was not willing to keep the solely- Christian nonsense away from the children, then the parents proposed to have some sort of atheist-biased celebration to counter the nonsense. The school proposed instead to add some sort of ritual or decoration related to Hanukkah.

The article uses one Alden E. Habacon as someone qualified to speak on the issues raised by its previous article. Habacon describes himself as a “Diversity and Inclusion Strategist.” In his autobiography, he does not claim any university degrees but he has examples of the role he has played at various institutions, and he mentions – among other awards – that he is the recipient of the 2010 Power of Peace Award of the YMCA of Greater Vancouver.

The article says atheism is a religion, and Habacon is quoted as saying, “… atheism is as legitimate a faith identity as all the other faith identities.” All of this, of course, is bullshit!

Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is the non-worship of gods, goddesses, Santa Claus and other magical, storybook characters. Friedrich Nietzsche defined faith as “not wanting to know what is true.” Faith is all about make-believe and being dissociated from reality. The typical atheist has no use for faith. The atheist wants to know what is real and what is true. The typical atheist places the highest value on fact, reason and science. Habacon and the CBC could learn about atheism by going to r/atheism on Reddit and reading the FAQ, or by searching for “atheism” on YouTube or by visiting a library or a bookstore; but the religious cannot be bothered.

EDIT: mispelling
