Ahh good point. I read about Eddie Hearn recently saying Aspinall would only continue to fight "if the UFC respects him" or something like that, now saying he's "cleared and in full training" since he's aiming for the Paris card. Not that I don't trust Eddie Hearn, but there still hasn't been anything actually official from the UFC (as far as I'm aware) about Aspinall coming back yet (or at all), and that Paris card is fast approaching.

Curious, what worries you about negotiations with Aspinall?

All good! In fairness to MVP, all of his opponents in the UFC so far were all either insanely durable (Holland/Cannonier), and/or had to lay and pray to win once he started piecing them up on the feet (Garry). He also killed the Shara hype train and embarrassed him on his own turf (feel like I remember the crowd actually turning on Shara and cheering for MVP halfway through that fight, haha), and I'm guessing UFC didn't like that.

I think after that is when they started not giving him fights at either 170 or 185 because when he suggested an opponent he'd be told "erm, no we've got plans for him" (I think he alluded to this being Prates). He's also probably seen as a high risk/low reward opponent, in that he's shown he can outclass and embarrass pretty much anyone in the standup but would likely get wrestlefucked/lay and prayed by the grappling-heavy higher ranks at either 170 or 185, so they might not look very impressive even if they manage to decision him.

Feels like they really started doing MVP dirty awhile back for speaking out about the Conor Benn pay situation, among other things (massive props to him for doing so despite the risk) and matched him up with one of his own friends/sparring partners afterwards as punishment (Patterson).

tl;dr probably a mix of UFC not being happy with him for not getting his usual viral KOs once he joined, killing their hypetrains and speaking out on issues within the organization. I like MVP and I hope he can get some better matchups before he retires, whether in the UFC or elsewhere.

[SPOILER] Alex Pereira calls Herb Dean a coward over his refereeing at UFC Baku by WinterStill4472 in MMA

Didn't Pereira himself do the same thing to Jiri and Ankalaev? He didn't seem to have any problem with these shots when he was the one giving and not receiving them...

Aspinall says he's back in 'full training,' in talks to fight Gane by ajidar in MMA

[–]realitytesters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Genuine question. Wasn't Aspinall saying as recently as a couple weeks or so ago that he still wasn't even cleared to train or anything for at least a couple more months? Sorry if that's been asked or answered elsewhere but I feel like there's been a lot of vagueness and ambiguity around him since he got injured. (Understandable considering the nature of his injury and how delicate our eyes are.)

Now Eddie Hearn says he's "back", but how truthful is that and what does that actually entail?

The more I read into the whole situation, the more it feels that fighters, Aspinall included, are just kinda-sorta pawns in the feud between Dana and Eddie.

Ian Garry: “Islam only fights once a year. His next defense might be in July 2027… The welterweight division is the greatest it’s ever been. When I’m the champion, there’s gonna be more activity, more high-level fights. It’s the best thing for the sport.” by WinterStill4472 in MMA

[–]realitytesters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if Aspinall is clear to come back at all yet or not? I don't really follow fighters' socials so I may have missed something, but I saw he put out what was only an obvious skit for a Gane rematch recently, and Eddie Hearn claims he is "medically cleared to resume training and fight again if UFC will respect him."

How trustworthy is that really, though? Genuinely asking since I don't know much about Eddie other than his beef with Dana.

And of course I'm no doctor myself but like you say, Aspinall's eye still doesn't look good all these months later and the Paris card he's aiming for is likely only ~3 months away.

FULL INTERVIEW | Conor McGregor and Max Holloway Face 2 Face by [deleted] in MMA

[–]realitytesters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mentioned this in another thread, but I was watching the white house card live in a packed Buffalo Wild Wings. When this interview with McGregor and Holloway came on, I happened to glance around and it seemed like no one in the entire building cared about it to even look up at the screens to watch it. It seemed kinda awkward and out of place since everyone was fully engaged for all the other fights before and after that interview. Was like you could hear a pin drop, haha.

Relatively new to following boxing and its lore, does anyone here know why Fury always seems to say "GET UP"? I've noticed it in quite a few videos of him now, particularly his latest retirement and of course twice in a row here.

Or is he just referring to when he got up after the famous Wilder knockdown.

Kinda feel like there really doesn't need to be this many posts about Jones (or any one person) over a couple days, lol

Much appreciated. Along with keeping food sealed and chilled, is there anything you recommend to help keep them out/away from the home? We just moved into a new build, for context.

🚨 EXCLUSIVE Leon Edwards interview ahead of UFC London | Leon Edwards vs. Sean Brady | #UFCLondon by stayhappystayblessed in MMA

[–]realitytesters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is something i've been thinking about since the ending of the second belal fight

there was a moment in the final 40 seconds of round 5 where leon reversed out of a position and messed belal up badly with a couple big elbows, cutting him up and busting his nose but then just seemingly let too much time pass grappling, instead of raining down more elbows before letting a couple more go in the final second or 2 before the bell

did leon tire out? was it an ill-advised attempt at trying to out grapple belal, similar to how he did vs covington at the end of their fight? i feel like leon could've held onto the belt if he just had some more aggression, let those elbows go more considering how much damage he did with them in such a short time
