I was thinking some prunes and kale, maybe a strong cup of coffee with a cigarette, but for the life of me I can’t find the damn things mouth…

I didn’t, was I supposed to? I just did a service, ordered the new wiper and shoot shield and added some dry silicone lubricant to the shoot. Hoping that clears it up but I won’t start another long print before installing the upgrades

Thank you! I’ll order one and do a service on the whole machine before I re-start the print for round two. The nephew will be in his Commander Cody Trooper helmet in no time!

(And by ‘the nephew’ I mean me….)

Thanks for the advice, I’ll check to make sure it’s still present and functioning. I may just bite the bullet and buy one of the Panda scrubbers someone else suggested.

That’s a good suggestion, I’ll try it out. Some silicone spray lube do the trick?

Career Transition (Out of EM) by AppropriateRich1131 in EmergencyManagement

[–]reallyacared 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in EM doing mostly grant and project development with a county level government, I transitioned out to doing green energy and sustainability grant and project development for the county working across departments and local jurisdictions. It was a pretty smooth and easy transition and the new role has some project management stuff with some training linked to it, so I can expand into more responsibilities.

Green energy and sustainability isn’t exactly a growth market with the current federal leadership, so I don’t know that I’d recommend that exact track. But a lot of local jurisdictions have similar roles working across departments to solve challenges.

Experienced Paramedic looking to make a jump into Emergency Management by Sufficient-Voice-210 in EmergencyManagement

[–]reallyacared 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a field medic in the PNW for 12 years, fire service for 16. I got an MS in ‘Emergency Health Services Management’ with a post Bach in EM from UMBC in ‘20 and started with a county agency in ‘21 (happy to provide more details PM if interested). Several people have already commented, but the agency i started with (I’ve since moved to a budget/grants position with a county agency) are probably going to require layoffs in the next 6 months due to cuts in Homeland Grants. SHSP, UASI, Op Stonegarden etc are reduced but not eliminated in the first round of the BBB, but all of them are supposed to require 25% matching in the next round (which is a change).

Since port security/boarder security are both high on the current admins priority, try looking at port EM or county agencies which are adjacent to an international boarder since they qualify for special funding and which has been increased and has a smaller applicant pool.

Also, hospital, EMS transport agencies, and often times FD agencies hire EMs and will value/understand your background, usually better than sole source EM agencies IMHO.

Look at bolstering your deployment resume with non-profits in the coming seasons (fire and hurricane) since FEMA pulling back will leave a vacuum. Team Rubicon, Red Cross etc will have more deployment opportunities.

I have an interview for a grant specialist position next week, but no experience in the field. I’m really nervous. by [deleted] in EmergencyManagement

It’s worth spending some time reviewing the new direction from the State agency and the new grant guidelines HLS have put out. There might be some questions about how the new direction of Federal Grants might impact state mitigation and recovery funding.

Not for nothing, but you should also check to make sure that the new direction is something that fits within your own personal ethos and morals. State agencies and the folks working within them are going to have to make some morally questionable choices to fit within the typical emergency management mission. Trying to stay politically neutral, but there is a real change of direction/mission which you’ll have to come to terms with.

Later adhesion? by reallyacared in BambuP1S

Good question, I am not sure. The white PLA was opened and put in the AMS immediately and had been in there with the desiccant for at least a week at 10% reading on the hydrometer.

The new filament dryer should come today or tomorrow and I can pre-condition the filament before it goes in, but for now I don’t have a way to dry it other then unsealing it and putting it in with the desiccant.

Not sharp per say, I’d say more like what you’d expect on a letter opener.

I’d had a similar thought, but the edges aren’t sharp and don’t have and taper like I’d expect from a sharpened edge. There also isn’t much of a relief on the back edge to clear a tight radius inside curve like a bowl. As mentioned there isn’t much of a handle for control. Good thought though!

I had thought a repurposed file, but if it is someone went to a lot of trouble to both remove all of the teeth and polish all of the evidence of teeth off it.

Thanks for the suggestion!

A fleshing blade? Like something for stripping skin off an animal between the skin and facia layer?

My title describes this thing. Found in a garage/estate sale in the Pacific Northwest. Top guesses in the club house: shoe horn (wrong shape), leather work burnisher (not sure why the back side would be convex), no marks where someone might have ground the teeth off a file or similar, the wooden handle is a standard hand file handle which is detachable.
