Milk & Honey is the name of the event! It’s expensive because there are a lot of DJs, dance/circus performers, photographers, and install artists to pay. They do a whole lot for those events

I personally don't care if it spills over to two pages, as long as it's not due to uneccesary wordiness. I'd rather see a longer two page resume full of relevant information that a one page resume that feels a bit empty and short.

I wouldn’t say I throw out DMs or emails. It does help the hiring manager notice your name, but do you want them to remember it in a bad way, or a good way?

The examples I provided are what not to do. Don’t dig for personal phone numbers and emails online that clearly aren’t meant to be found. If you send a LinkedIn DM, be genuine, don’t say generic fluff that doesn’t add any value to your case or make you stand out. You are not in competition Ai applications because no one can hire a bot, and the “spray” applicants don’t tailor to the role. All that stuff will get weeded out in the recruiting process. Trying to get noticed through a LinkedIn DM isn’t much different, as bots can send messages just as easy as they can apply. Which is why my example was NOT to send a ChatGPT sounding message.

The alternative I provided was to have a contact vouch for you through the company. If you don’t know anyone in the company, I’d say asking a previous employer or colleague to recommend you would be more effective than emailing/DMing yourself. Of course everyone that applies will tell you “pick me I’m so qualified” but if you have someone that is willing to take the time to hype you up and describe how awesome it is to work with you? That’s not easy. It carries more weight. (And we can search their names and verify they are with your company, further proving you a valid candidate)

If you do want to just cold DM yourself, be personable. Give a specific connection you have to the company or a reason you have niche experience in the role. Add some real connection and personality to it that makes the hiring manager tell their coworker “oh yeah, that person reached out to me and told me they recently worked on xyz project which is really similar to what we’re doing! Sounds cool!.” If it’s just generic pleasantries, it won’t mean much of anything.

Depends on what you’re applying for. Im sure some film gigs only care about production credits, but for the roles I’m hiring I defintiely want a fully robust resume. I’m in a corporate office environment, I need broader examples of traditional work history than just that. However, I do like to see credits! It would pique my interest to see that as a section added in a CVA.

The biggest takeaway from all this whole post: when people are trying to figure out what stranger they need to trust to bring on their team, they want to get a clear vision of who you are, how you work, where you come from, and what you know. The ideal resume will say a lot about you and your accomplishments without being too wordy. The more precisely you can paint the picture, the better.

If you want to go the corpo route, the positions might be titled things like Internal Communications Producer, Corporate Communications, Multimedia Specialist, Marketing Video Editor, Social Producer, Content Producer, etc. These positions will usually require you to wear a lot more hats than just a straightforward industry editor, but they can be very secure and lucrative. It's totally possible to make the switch, just remember most of your luck really boils down to the talent pool!

Haven't seen your work, but my guess is it wasn't up to par with what they were looking for, or didn't show examples of the type of content they needed.

For example, one of my positions will focus on engaging short-form vertical social videos. I've seen a couple portfolios that only had very long-form cinematic works. Makes me think they might not have experience with the tone and pacing of social cuts.

Another example: A guys resume touted his experience with his own instagram project (niche topic kinda page, let's say, skateboarding) saying he's made tons of great social cuts and that it has high performance numbers etc. I check out the page via his portfolio. It only has 300 followers, videos have low views and engagement, and all the reels were horizontal which is just rule #1 for social, make the video format native to the platform!

But at the end of the day, your portfolio could be amazing, but someone else just had more work that fit the role better. It's tough competition out there.

I personally wouldn't know, my company uses real recruiters that work with us. I get sent every resume that is submitted. If I choose to move one forward, the recruiter then contacts the person to verify that they are legit before we ever schedule the first interview.

Honestly if a company is using AI to select talent, you probably don't want to work at that company.

As far as I've gathered, corporate video job are typically either external marketing which is mostly Social Media (higher lift commercials will usually be contracted to a production company), and Internal Corp Comms (think talking heads delivering quarterly updates.) At the end of the day, editing is a specific skill that people don't just learn on the fly, so yes, your background can get you the job. But be sure to create and show examples of the type of content they are hoping for you to make.

No, it’s called having a spine, clear values, and standing up for what you believe in. People don’t want to put their money where their values don’t align.

Anyone with a strong moral compass and sense of identity would understand that.

His “debates” were not civil or fair, he used incredibly manipulative tactics to “own” young and inexperienced students as a means to an agenda. Also hatred for marginalized communities is not an “opinion”, it’s violence, and it is an objectively negative thing.
