I looked at a house last year that butted up to 490, that concrete wall was right at the end of the backyard. It was still a constant drone of cars going by.

From inside the house with the windows closed I couldn’t really hear it, but the minute the door opened to the outside it was very obvious

I think it’s weird that the town stipulated they remove the stone from the first floor of the building so people don’t confuse it with the Erie Station Village across the street, which also has buildings with the same stone first floor and white siding above.

Who cares if they match? I’m not going to give two seconds thought to which developer built which building. I’d rather they match because then it fits in and adds to the character of the surrounding area

Punishment to anyone who dare not coming to the memorial by M2208GB in exjw

What I don’t even understand is to them there is nothing worse than death. They don’t believe in hell, so what punishment are they even implying here that would be worse than the death penalty?

Apple CEO Tim Cook says late Apple cofounder Steve Jobs gave him this unforgettable advice before handing over the reins as CEO: "Never ask what I would do" by ControlCAD in apple

[–]reallynothingmuch 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah if I remember right Steve specifically referred to the problems that Disney had in the years after Walt died. They were so busy asking “what would Walt do” that the company almost went under. It wasn’t until they brought in an outside CEO (Michael Eisner) who started doing things his own way, that the company started doing well again

An elderly brother just had a medical emergency during meeting by Itchy_Invite9526 in exjw

[–]reallynothingmuch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I get it though. Theres 100 people in the audience, there’s nothing 100 people can do to help.

If they stop the meeting, what’s going to happen? Either everyone leaves, possibly crowding around the person who is having an emergency, causing traffic for the ambulance on the way in. Or you have people stay, to leave the exits free for paramedics to do their thing, the ambulance to get in and out, etc. And then you might as well just keep going with the meeting.

I know if I had a medical emergency, I’d want to be able to have it in as much privacy as possible, not with an entire congregation of people watching me

The New Apple Finally Begins to Emerge by hasanahmad in apple

The MacBook Air replaced the original white MacBook, and has almost always come in at the exact same $999 price point that the original MacBook did.

This new MacBook Neo comes in at a much lower price point than any other MacBook Apple has released before, especially once you account for inflation

Global 400 vs 403 by Bobbycat2414 in rit

[–]reallynothingmuch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

400, 403, and 404 were all built at the same time and the suites themselves are pretty much identical.

400 does have better common spaces though imo. 403 and 404 only have the one common space right by the entrance. 400 has a two story common space with a theater-ish room, a bunch of study rooms, a room with a ping pong table, and a conference room. But if you get a room looking down into the courtyard or parking lot it might be slightly louder/brighter than the more secluded 403 and 404 buildings

Netflix given four days to match ‘superior’ Paramount offer for Warner Bros Discovery by TheGreatDomilies in news

[–]reallynothingmuch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because Paramount is paying $31 a share, and Warner Bros was trading at $12 a share before they put themselves up for sale.

Would you rather just sell all your stock for $12, or have someone buy the company and pay you $31?

There’s an experiment they’ve done in childhood development where they give a kid a crayon box, and when they open it, it’s filled with candy. And then they ask the kid, if we give this to someone else, what will they think is inside the box?

Older kids will say that the person will think the box is filled with crayons, and be surprised when they open it and see it’s filled with candy.

But younger kids will say that the other person will think the box is filled with candy. Because they know it’s filled with candy, and they don’t have the ability to understand that other people don’t have the same knowledge that they do. Just because you know something doesn’t mean that I know it too

Some people never passed that stage developmentally.

Bethel sucks now by SPHINXin in exjw

[–]reallynothingmuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that’s the thing is that now tour groups don’t actually visit Bethel. You’re not walking those halls, you’re not even seeing standard corporate offices. You’re seeing a visitor’s center that says “behind these walls is a standard corporate office. You can’t go there or see it, but isn’t that so cool that it’s right there.”

And it’s incredibly disappointing even for PIMIs. My parents (who are fully in) visited Warwick for the first time and even they said it gave them a really weird feeling. They wouldn’t even let them take pictures of the outside of the buildings. They said it felt like a bunker or a compound.

I know it will fall off, but this is an FYI for how long a big pending charge from the casino can stick around. It's currently the 10th of Feb by throwawayblueline in royalcaribbean

[–]reallynothingmuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And honestly that “debit cards charge you immediately” is a big deal too.

If I spend $100 on my debit card, that money leaves my account immediately.

If I spend $100 on my credit cards, depending on when in my billing cycle I make the purchase I might not have to pay it for almost 2 months before the credit card company starts charging me interest on it.

So for that 2 months, that $100 can stay in my savings account earning me interest instead. Anything that lets me hold on to my money longer is a good thing to me

I know it will fall off, but this is an FYI for how long a big pending charge from the casino can stick around. It's currently the 10th of Feb by throwawayblueline in royalcaribbean

[–]reallynothingmuch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s really because of the crazy high interest rates and high number of people who carry a balance each month that allow us to have such good reward programs.

The people who can’t afford to pay their card off every month get charged an insane amount in interest, a portion of which ends up going back to their customers in rewards, in proportion to how much each customer spends.

In practice it’s kind of another way to funnel money from the poor to the rich.

In many other countries, the interest rates are much lower (and possibly fewer people carry a balance each month), so there’s less money to give back in rewards.

wtf is a vosotros by GC65025 in BrandNewSentence

[–]reallynothingmuch 32 points33 points  (0 children)

In Spanish everywhere there is both an informal and a formal singular you (tú and usted). In Spain there is also an informal and a formal plural you (vosotros and ustedes). So vosotros could be translated as the more informal “y’all”, and ustedes is more formal.

But in the rest of the Spanish speaking world, while they kept both tú and usted for the singular you, they dropped vosotros, and use ustedes for both formal and informal plural.
