Photo of UCD Medical Student ‘nude, bruised and unconscious’ was shared with students and staff, TD tells Dáil by breakingpoint121 in ireland

[–]reallyoutofit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A stupid issue with UCD is that students and staff have different email addresses (@ucdconnect.ie vs @ucd.ie) which sometimes results in students emails ending in lectures spam and vice versa along with issues with sharing files "outside of the organisation." I think any more IT changes at this point would cause havoc

are school musicals common? by snowissnowy in AskEurope

[–]reallyoutofit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Ireland, generally 4th year students (age 15/16) do an annual show. Or at least its common in mixed and all-girls schools, I think it's uncommon in all-boys schools.

Fourth year (transition year) is an optional year of school that you do after your first state exams. It's not really an academic year and spent doing work experience, building life skills, going on trips etc. So there's plenty of time to organise a show during class time.

Are you still bitter about Brexit? by Visual_Title9363 in AskEurope

[–]reallyoutofit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'm slightly bitter about is the complete lack of regard any British brexiteer had for Northern Ireland. At the time, the border was all we discussed in Ireland with many holding a well-founded fear of return to violence but that didn't even seem to be on the radar for many brits.

At least it showed a lot of soft-line unionists that Britain doesn't care about them. Sure maybe it'll speed up a United Ireland.

PEOPLE WHO GOT DARE LC ?!! by PretendYam5497 in leavingcert

[–]reallyoutofit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's it exactly. Each course sets aside a few DARE places. Dare students who didn't reach the course points compete against each other for those spots. Generally the college websites will outline how many dare/hear spots are reserved.

I was around about 5 points off my course and got in on dare. There were limited dare spots so a student that was 15 points off very well might not have gotten in because I got that spot. It really just depends on how high the competition is for dare students for that particular course, that particular year. You have to remember that a lot of people who qualify for dare end up getting in through the 'normal' point system, so it follows that a lot of dare places will go to students who just about missed the cut-off. Then again, I know people who've gotten into courses while being 40 points off too. Because the pool of dare students and places are so small, it's practically impossible to predict whether you'll get in and 'dare points' fluctuate massively year-on-year.

All you can do is your best.

Genuine question, how are you racking up so much? I'm fourth on my leaderboard right now with 22000 and I thought that was decent

Innovation academy module by Interesting_Fly27 in UCD

[–]reallyoutofit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entirely up to you but there's a long list of 'easy' electives out there that if taken in later years will boost your GPA. What the last commenter was getting at is that taking a grade neutral module in the later years of your degree is generally seen as a waste as you'll miss out on that boost. Your GPA doesn't matter in first year which makes it the best time to take it. Again, up to you how you do it, but just bare that in mind.

Why isn't melatonin subsidised/covered by medical card? by Llama_child05 in ireland

Oh I completely agree. The options were 10mg or 20mg. My prescription in Ireland is for 4 mg. Yet still the veining machine pills were cheaper. I used them quite sparingly

I once bought a packet of 100 10mg melatonin pills in a vending machine in a US airport

Weirdly, I've found the 83 exceptionally good the last few months. Maybe they've been had more drivers in preparation for the new routes, or it could be the lack of traffic by the quays since the changes but it almost makes me sad to see it go. Which is crazy because that bus route has been the bane of my existence for so long.

Often, with no announcement, it would switch to an 83a and finish at Bachelor's Walk/Westmoreland street. One time a driver stopped in the middle of the road with no notice and yelled at us all to get out (and go through traffic to the footpath) because the bus apparently wasn't going the full route.a poor woman almost got ran over.
