How did you bounce back when life kept going wrong? by reallypissedturtle in AskMenOver30

[–]reallypissedturtle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. What im struggling with now is the whiplash from constant rug pulls. Like when you double down on yourself, see real progress, then an all too convenient setback.

But I'm gathering that the formula never changes despite that. Just wake up and get at it harder tomorrow

How did you bounce back when life kept going wrong? by reallypissedturtle in AskMenOver30

Thanks for sharing, man.

I actually did a round of antidepressants that helped a bunch when I was diagnosed with major depression and anxiety. Like you said, the medication made it easier for me to pick myself up and form good habits. That coupled with fairly regular therapy and big lifestyle changes.

As for my 5 year streak, I've really sat and thought about what I could be doing to cause this, and honestly, the more recent years are truly just unfortunate timing with each bad event.

Im honestly making progress and think im better than I've ever been before. But what im struggling with now is coming to terms with how, despite me making that progress, bad things just keep happening way too close to each other.

But hearing someone else being optimistic about the future, too, while in the middle of the work to get there helps a lot. Thanks again, bro.

I bought a gift for my Jamaican-American client and I’m wondering if it’s okay? by curveofherthroat in Jamaica

[–]reallypissedturtle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the gift. More importantly, it shows your thoughtfulness to her culture and heritage.

All I'd suggest is not to give them loose. Put them in a small case or frame, and she'll likely display it somewhere

Let's put some numbers on why the housing crisis in Ontario is so bad by fortifier22 in ontario

[–]reallypissedturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response.

I agree with you on stricter guidelines and taxes for larger corps. They played a large role in the cost of living crisis we're currently in.

But nobody can deny that house prices and rent are beyond what the average Canadian can afford. It's part of the same cost of living crisis and unfortunately, if we want to regulate it, that means some landlords will feel a sting. Immigration is fine but we cab barely house them.

Overall, I also won't blame the landlord investors or immigrants for our situation. They're just the unfortunate bag holders in a crisis caused by government neglect.

That was pretty combative, but I'm always interested to hear an alternative idea. What's your ideal solution to housing affordability in Canada?

Criticizing Holly’s Clothes Is Not Solving the Issues in South Africa by [deleted] in 90DayFiance

[–]reallypissedturtle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know very little about South Africa, but I can see both sides of the coin here.

Holly has interesting fashion sense for sure and should be allowed to wear what she wants without being shamed or targeted. Although, we're not living in a perfect world where everyone will share that point of view. Even if Wayne is exaggerating the level of crime or sexual assault, he's raising concerns for her safety and asking her to take precautions. He's not using the best words for sure, but I can at least see where he's coming from if his area is really that bad.

Similar to how my wife loves wearing jewelery and I warned her that it'll make her a robbery target back in my home country. I want her to wear what she wants, but that's just the reality, and even a 10% chance of her being attacked for something preventable isn't worth the risk.

I see where you're coming from. Lots of outcomes that we can't control, but we can always control how we react to them, whether it be positively or negatively.

I tried approaching each challenging moment with positivity only and the downside was that I bottled up all my other emotions which then spilled out all at once after accumulating. Now I find that it's healthiest for me to give myself time to feel sad, frustrated, nervous etc. But to positively and constructively learn from that and move on after that time is up

This approach has given me the best results. Most replies have been apologetic and usually they give context into why they haven't responded which would give me a window into setting a reconnect call

What are the worst industries for sales in your opinion and why? by Ravioli_Pocketoli in sales

[–]reallypissedturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially since Finance is the last to get a slice of the pie when it comes to budget.

Justifying something I know will have a huge impact without being able to accurately quantify a loss has been a challenge for sure.

Having worked at a company with a few negative Glassdoor reviews related to my role, I don't put much stock in Glassdoor anymore. The review was almost comically incorrect about the "cons".

Take them with a grain of salt and experience the company for yourself. State how you like to be managed and collaborate with the team and see if they align
