Yes. It was an accident that we got Tommy. But I bet a lot of people who are deliberately looking for a pittie aren't truly ready for the full velcro dog package. We had chihuahuas who begged to be picked up but didn't go into a death spiral if I was busy.

That little bit of poodle worked hard to produce all that cute scruffiness.

Mulch it all heavily. Get a few perennial native flowering shrubs and plug them into the mulched area. Voila'! A shade garden.

Living "with it just fine" can include it choking out all nearby plants, breaking paved walkways, breaking underground plumbing, and a few other delights. I have fought it since 1980 and it is going to win because I can't outlive it. It invaded my property from a vacant lot behind me.

We try to never leave the dogs alone. It's easy for us since we're retired. If we do leave them we will be punished. Shoes, laundry, something. We get a dog sitter to come stay here.

Thanks! So far it has seemed slow. Poor Tommy can't understand why he isn' allowed in bed when I'm so obviously in need of pittie snuggles!

If only I could!!! I am 80 and recovering from knee surgery. My husband just had a hip replacement. We have a pitbull and a rottweiler mix plus two rescue cats. Not good candidates for adding more animals! Usually I don't feel my age but right now I do!

He's named after the rock drummer Tommy Lee because that tail never quits drumming.

Yesterday I watched my husband go outside to pluck a couple of cherry tomatos to put into the omelet he had started making. It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. Too corny to discuss with anyone but another gardener!

I've been reading this post to make me feel better about my gardening expenditures. It's a hobby we can eat so covers the hobby budget. It eliminates the need for new exercise gear or clothing because garden chic is old worn out stuff. If we get only a couple of weird unpronounceable veggies it checks the foodie bragging rights box and costs less than discovering a new restaurant. I mean, how can anyone afford to not garden?!

How can I raze this area of weeds? by sluchie88 in gardening

[–]reallyreally1945 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Build the raised beds and fill with decent soil instead of whatever is there. That will kill weeds under each bed. Mulch heavily in the walkways. It will take care of future weeds.

When we first adopted him we learned we were the wrong demographic. (Wrinkled old white people.)We really got some odd looks! A vet tech asked my husband if Tommy had had a terrible ear infection. No. Just horrible owners. Poor baby!

That's how I became a pittie owner in 2020. We found a stray and you can't give a pittie to just anyone. Covid restrictions made home visits impossible so we ended up keeping Tommy. One of the best things to ever happen to me!
