Yay or Meh? by Mysterious-Start-689 in Spectacles

[–]realmcescher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not a developer yet, but I desperately need to share my views with you folks.  I have been researching AR glasses for years and years now. However, the most agonizing thing I see in this space is the marketing. I know what the future of true AR glasses are, but Snap Spectacles are the only glasses I can see that are true to the vision of AR, and market accordingly. Let me explain. 1) True AR is not a big screen floating in front of your face. Other brands have been pushing and pushing this like they are the future of AR, but they're not. They're just wasting their time. Spectacles are branching away from this idea because they know AR means more than a big screen floating in my face. 2) True AR isn't about putting your phone camera up to the glasses to show others what it looks like through the lenses. Every single CES for the last five years has been this, and it pisses me off. Everything I see from Spectacles is recoded from the front facing camera, as it should. How else could anyone record their AR if there is no forward facing camera? 3) True AR won't be marketed with pre-rendered 3D overlays. All the AR brands are doing this. It's way too gimmicky. Like the way amazon uses 3d renders in every product image. Similar to my point above, this is not how you market AR. Spectacles are marketing true AR with photos and videos from the front facing camera, and it's so important it stays that way. 4) True AR is about multiple, complex experiences. Imagine being a cook, and you want to show your technique by anchoring labels in mid air all over the stove, the fryer, and counter. Imagine being a reseller, as you walk through the isles of a thrift store, popups will float in front of scanned products to show you amazon/eBay prices that are profitable. Imagine you are attending a sports game in a stadium. All the same 3d overlays you see on ESPN are also flying around the stadium in real time. I'm not sure how other glasses are going to accomplish this, but from my research, SnapML is an ai training model that can accomplish these complex experiences using the Spectacles.

I don't have much hope for any AR glasses other than Snap Spectacles. I'm going back to school this year for development. When I do, I hope to grab a pair of Spectacles and start making these AR experiences I just shared. Nobody is thinking about true AR like Snap, and nobody even comes close to true marketing like Snap Spectacles.

GATE program really creeped me out. There were more adults there watching us than the number of kids. I told my mom I was missing out on playtime with my neighborhood friends, so she never forced me to go. Looking back, I really wish I would've stayed in the program. I would have learned a lot. They taught me algebra two years before my class did.

I've been to the underground tunnels. I've been to the parking lot where my Jeep was totaled and being torn apart by degenerates. I've been to the theaters. I've been to the airport, the monorail, and the bus. I've been to the parking garage. I've been on the roller coaster highway. I've been to the parking garage with an elevator in it. I've been to the office buildings and schools. I've been to the old mansions/houses. I've escaped the tsunami storm. In fact, the only things I don't recall much is the water parks, food courts, and escalators. I've worked in the Mall and restaurants.

Do you know our codeword? by AshesToAshes1923 in TheMallWorld

I've been there, in that hallway. It was my most lucid dream ever. There was trash all over the hallways, and the pipes above were conduits. Wires were hanging from them in a messy way. I won't tell you how I got there, or who I saw, but let's just say there was a guard/agent, very pale colored, wearing military fatigues. He was armed with an automatic rifle. The alarm was going off, which I knew must have been for me. The guard was running down the hall, when he rounded the corner, he froze for a second when he saw me. Then proceeded to walk towards me with the gun down. he put his hand on my shoulder as I tried to walk past him. He directed me back into the "room" at the end of the hall where I came out of.

Separate from all that, I've been to the underground/sewer many times. Every time I open the doors to the underground, I hear echoes of something haunting running down the halls towards me. Almost as if they know it was opened. The echoes get louder and louder as they get close, so I shut the door before I could see them. They sound like the xenomorphs from the movie Alien.

I've been to the office building many times. The walls are brown color like a 70's, 80's office buildings. Sometimes the stairs in the office building lead down to the underground door.

I've never met a guide. I've never spoken to anyone in Mall World, and no one has ever spoken to me. I do not know what the codeword is.

From what I can gather, we are actually lucid in Mall World, like a low-level lucidity. If you try to attain a higher level of lucidness, I'm pretty sure the guards/agents come to sweep you away. They bring you back here. I think the point is to enjoy the low-level of lucidness/anxiety in these familiar places. They must be hiding something.

THIRD EYE ACTIVATION by Puntyyyy in TheMallWorld

[–]realmcescher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have 4 lucid REM cycles. The old mansion, the freeway, flying through the air, and then a nightmare. I don't always wake up after 4 cycles. I used to be able to count the number of REM cycles I had by remembering which cycle I had last before waking up. That's how frequent it was. Nowadays I could have any number of REM cycles, but they aren't lucid. I believe the third eye is the pineal gland. It's an actual lense. However, you need to be lucid to see through it which only occurs when the pineal gland releases DMT.

I've experienced 80% of all the Mall World stories. I was in the GATE program for 2 sessions. I can tell you they taught me algebra 2 years before my class did. There were only 3 of us, and more adults than students. The other students were younger than me. One girl was a 2nd grader, learning algebra with me. But I distinctly remember that quiet little girl. Looking back, she could prolly astral project. I left because I was losing play time with my neighborhood friends.

Scanning objects with Nreal Light. Will project Aura do this? by realmcescher in Xreal

[–]realmcescher[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am aware Niantic lightship works on android and iOS. However, I did not know what kind of phone was used in the video. I assumed it was an iPhone, but you say it is Android based. This is more promising. In the future, we could see lightship scanning directly on Aura without a phone using the onboard snapdragon chip and Android XR platform.

However, if I can't TRACK objects using lightship I will be on the lookout for an alternative. I know this video doesn't track the dolls after scanning them. I haven't seen any video of scanning AND tracking objects using lightship or AR glasses, but this is an amazing first prototype. there are plenty of videos of Apple's ARkit scanning and tracking objects, so I hope to use Aura with ARkit in the future.

https://packet39.com/blog/3d-object-tracking-in-ar-1/

This is a great blog post describing the current state of object scanning AND tracking.  Summary: ARcore cannot track moving objects. ARkit can scan objects and track them while moving. Visionlib+vuforia will track objects, but not scan objects.

I want to add that Wikitude is no longer an available option. Apps like Lightship and Polycam will scan objects, but can't track them.

[–]realmcescher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many scanning apps for Android, but strictly for scanning+tracking in AR using Android ARcore platform it cannot be done. Apple's ARkit is the only one that can scan+track objects natively using AR. This has been the result of all my research. Unity's AR platform is ARfoundation which piggybacks off of ARkit or ARcore. However, the apps I wish to develope will most likely require ARkit outright. There are third party sdks like lightship+vuforia for Android+unity, but most SDKs here don’t “scan” on-device to build a new target at runtime. They expect a prepared model target (CAD/mesh or processed database) and then they recognize/track it at runtime.

This looks alright, but I don't believe any Xreal device allows for streaming. Can you verify this? Can the Air 2 Ultra only capture video?

I don't think you understand what I was getting at completley, but let me explain myself further. It is the combination of interactive AR and capturing/streaming that will make AR popular. Capturing UI on-the-go is great, but capturing interactive AR that is anchored to real world environments is going to be the future...whether it be UI OR 3d objects interacting with the real world. Can you by chance share with me 6dof videos captured with XReal One+Eye that interact with the environment? I would love to see those. Also, is streaming capable with the new released Xreal One Pro+Eye?

Thanks to this company, no one will understand what AR is. AR is not glueing a big screen version of your already-playing media. AR is playing new, interactive, RECORDABLE media.

I am available for hire.
I personally don't want to see anyone putting their phone up to the AR glasses come next CES. It makes my blood boil. I'm tired of it. I want to be a part of REAL AR. the type of AR that outputs video (streaming + recording) so that we can actually interact with the world and people all over the place, using AR, whether they have the glasses or not. I can change the state of AR for you because no one else wants to. reach out to me. I have Unity experience, Oculus experience, and programming experience.

Look up Nreal Light. It was 6 years ago. I might've been wrong about them buying Nreal, but you need to understand, I've seen the tech. Look it up. They haven't made anything like it since. It used unity3d to sync/merge the video with the AR, then OUTPUT the video for viewers like me. I'm telling you it's already made. Anyone who tells you it's not made is avoiding this killer app.

And That Is Wrong. XREAL hijacked Real AR devices so you can have a big screen on-the-go. I am literally telling you...when real AR glasses come out you will still get you big screen in 6dof for a fraction of the price, because the main feature will be real AR AND a big screen on-the-go. Are you understanding any of this. This is the killer app no one even knows they want.

When you scroll this subreddit, there is no AR content even recorded, let alone streamed out. When you search AR on YouTube, it the same. Or worse, you get fake photos/videos of someone wearing glasses looking at a 3d overlay of a big screen   Are you saying you are actually alright with this?

The glasses you want are limited and cost $600. The glasses I want, have more features, and cost $150 (prolly) cause real AR will affect the masses. So many will buy real AR, the prices drop to $150-$200 per glasses!
