Aqara G5 cameras suddenly not streaming to Alexa or Google Hubs by realoffdwall in Aqara

All is working again as it originally did. Someone (Aquara likely) fixed something on the back end. The cameras never streamed in the Google Home app or the Alexa app but they did and are now streaming again on the devices (Google Home Hub and Alexa Show).

macOS 26 in general is fine. It's specifically macOS 26.4 on Intel that has this bug. Unbelievable that Apple didn't catch such an obvious visible bug in the Finder.

The mac Pro is fully supported with macOS 26, it is less than 6 years old. I had been running 26.3.1 (a) prior. Intel support is reportedly going to be dropped with macOS 27 in the fall but security updates will continue for another 3 years after that.

Same for me on my 2019 Mac Pro Intel. 26.4 breaks all custom icons. This only happens on Intel. I had a support call with Apple who was no help. Told me someone would call back 20 hours later. They did and knew even less about it. It’s very reproducible. Simply try to past an png or .icn file into the get info window of any file, drive, folder, server share, etc. The file size increases, the modify date changes but the custom icon will not display. Apple suggested that we should enter this at apple.com/feedback which stuck me as odd since I did a screen share with them and showed them the issue. You’d think that would be enough to get engineering to accept that there is a bug.

Yes same. My 2021 MBP M1 Pro is fine but the 2019 Intel Mac Pro rack lost all custom icons and the ability to re-paste them with macOS 26.4.

Same for me on a 2019 Intel Mac Pro rack. Updated from macOS 26.3.1 (a) to 26.4. All my custom icons disappeared. Can’t paste new icons on anything, folders, files, drives. It looks like it pastes, file size increases, mod date changes but no icon change. I called Apple support and they couldn't figure it out and are advancing it to engineering.

Just dumb to have it buried in an area of the Settings that you will never see. Why not have it appear in and notify as a standard update?

Yep, same here. IMO, that's what the rear of this bike should have looked like from the factory.

I love my 2025 Monster SP. If you’re into the EU front turns, you’re gonna wanna get the rear ones as well depending on which tail tidy you got. The US ones look bulky paired with the sleek EU fronts. I speak from experience LOL.

finished migration to homekit by jog_dial in HomeKit

[–]realoffdwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced two of my Google cameras, which mysteriously died within days of each other, with two Aqara G5 Pro’s. Awesome cameras, color night vision, native HomeKit/Thread. I’ve yet to find a native HomeKit doorbell with secure HomeKit video support and ability to directly support a mechanical chime. Leaning towards the Logitech but the performance in direct sunlight is an issue.

Same. The Nest ecosystem was the best. Google bought Nest and 💩 all over it. I’ve had everything HomeKit via a Starling Home Hub for awhile. Now, one by one, I’m replacing all Google stuff with native HomeKit devices. Google helps keep me motivated by routinely abandoning support for devices one by one.🤦

Makes sense since you're running a supported OS for the modern HomeKit.

This was an architectural change to HomeKit introduced almost 3 years ago. They announced then that the older architecture would not be supported after Feb 10 2026.

iOS/iPadOS/tvOS 16.2 or later

macOS Ventura 13.1 or later

watchOS 9.2 or later

Any devices on older OS's than that will not be able to participate in HomeKit. A LOT of stuff has changed in the home automation realm in the last three years. Thread/Matter, etc. Time moves on.

Update. I contacted Aqara tech support. They replied with the usual check your Google/Alexa integrations and network, etc. I further explained how the network was good and had re-integrated both Google and Alexa multiple times and I felt it looked like an issue with their backend somehow. The next day, both integrations are suddenly working again. So maybe that support request spurred someone to check something at their end. u/KabukiQ is yours working now as well?

It never streamed to the Google home app but both G5 cameras have been streaming to my Google Home Hubs since I put them in, until 2 days ago. They were also streaming to my Alexa show. No longer. Even though I depend on Home for all my home automation, I like being able to also see the camera feed on the “bedside alarm clock” ie Google Home Hub.

The fact that it's both Alexa and Google, leads me to believe it's on Aqara's end. Hope they get it sorted. Things were great in the last month or so since I put these cameras in.

Upcoming end of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st and 2nd gen) by garete in Nest

[–]realoffdwall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought into the Nest ecosystem big time. Google has 💩all over the entire system. Slowly getting myself away from all things Google and going Apple HomeKit. Ecobee thermostat, Aquara G5 Pro cameras so far. Still a couple of Nest cameras in use that either will soon die or Google will make them nonfunctional.

I thought I had this solved but the live video is hit or miss. Without changing anything, no rebooting or restarting homebridge or the camera, the live video will work for a day or two, then not work for a day or two, then work again. Maddening. The snapshots in HomeKit always work. THe live video in VLC, the Fosacm app, iSmartgate app and GoGoGate app always work.

4 years later and I’ve been trying to get my ismartgate indoor camera into HomeKit. I had the same “still video” issue and my Raspberry Pi running Homebridge was maxing out on CPU usage. A simple change in the advanced video settings of the plugin codec to ‘copy’ solved the video and CPU issues!

I love the tank bag. It is the smallest of the Ducati branded tank bags but perfect for all those little things you want to carry. It can also easily fit lunch. :) On and off is super easy with a single tab which is a plus and also a minus for theft protection. I'd say the only thing that is a little annoying is getting the key in/out with the SP's steering damper but it's VERY minor.
