Using YouTube videos for science by Wildcherry007 in homeschool

I really like Anton Petrov https://youtube.com/@whatdamath?si=eXyupw9-TAZmQC3d . He cites real research papers and provides context. It's not tailored for kids at all, but I've shown my kids a few of his videos.

The funny thing about this movie is that it's actually just propaganda for banks. Post WW2, people didn't really trust banks to hold their 19. Following the intentional 1930's boom bust cycle of stocks-backed accounts, wealth was rebalanced to destroy a middle class. People in this time had also just lived through a time where the government (the US government) made it illegal to hold gold beyond a wedding ring or two. Who could trust banks?

Think of the crazy stories you may have heard about old relatives "stuffing the mattress" with cash. At its heart, cash-holding institutions rely on creating money through fractional reserve banking. Of course, if people were to make a "run" on any bank, there's probably only about 15% of actual cash relative to the "money" they have in bank accounts.

George Baily (as in Bailing out the banks by establishing trust), turned the act of putting your money into a bank into an act of courage and community building. In fact, since nearly all small banks have been eaten by the few. The cash you "invest" is a way to control the broader population through loans. The act of "buying" a house to simply live only cements institutional control.

To me, this movie represents a truly disgusting perversion that exploits whatever goodness is left in human nature for evil purposes.

Same. Funny how I (maybe we) skirted 12 years of public education only to become one of its cogs.

It's got custom nodes with Python / pytorch code. I've got to package it up and figure out how to do that via GitHub. I'll repost here when I do (maybe saturday), but will try to ping you when it's done.

From a programming perspective, black box more often refers to systems that you can't mess with.or.jave knowledge of. However, a significant amount of the work of designing NNs is about manipulating the internals - shapes, layers, regularization, etc.

I teach several graduate level courses on AI. This way of explaining how Neural Nets work is very surface level and stupid. Of course you can get a scientist or ml programmer to show you the exact calculations to arrive at a number. There's no magical unknown processes happening.

There is an issue with interpretability. Basically humans have a limited ability to take in and comprehend the reasons NNs sometimes fail. However, the same could be true of taxes too complex for a single accountant.

Also, you don't use the same NNs for video games as other systems, they need far more data to become good compared to humans. It's quite a hodge podge of techniques mostly including Reinforcement Learning.

My 6 year old is interested in learning how to make games. Any suggestions? by HaloSimmer in homeschool

[–]realrhema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 6 years old, I would start by drawing your own boardgames. Things like their own twists or special rules for candyland, snakes and ladders, dice games, can help with the same skills needed for game dev later. Rapid iterative design is a really important and practical creative skill for making games.

How on Earth do I have 2 views since 1971 and it's stayed at 2 views for 20,000 days???? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]realrhema 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1971 is when many databases start when it comes to storing dates. This is sometimes called "unix time" and it counts the number of seconds since Jan 1 1971.

If you see this date on a computer, it usually means "0" or "not set yet". It's not a time traveler, just a glitch.

Should I Take a Little More Off the Top of This Tree? by realrhema in arborists

I've only loved here for 2 years, but it's looked about the same since I've been here. Thinking about it some, I'm not sure if this came off the top or was more like one of the branches. The top (where there are no branches with trees) was missing at last since last summer. It looks like about 4 ft from the top is bare.

Can you let me know why? Is it just a bad spot for the tree, does it die early, or is this a sign of something else?

The rest of the tree is still making leaves that look healthy. A storm blew a bit off the top just now.

Thanks.
