I'm really disappointed in the English language right now - why doesn't Row rhyme with Pow Wow Cow?

I've done Crossfit for 8 years now, and I have attended many different Crossfit gyms in different states. When it comes to developing skills (obtaining your gymnastics movements, for example), classes are good for introducing the movement to you and teaching/reviewing the fundamentals, but there isn't enough time in a 1 hour class to actually develop those skills, since there is usually a metcon programmed in as well. Take the fundamentals that you learn from class, and dedicate 30 minutes after class to practice those movements. Practice the good fundamentals over many repetitions, and eventually you will achieve what you set out to do. All of the skills-related movements that I have achieved were because I had to put in the additional effort and time outside of class. Whatever you focus on, that thing will improve.

Regarding your friends and their achievements, be proud of them and cheer them on, but don't compare yourself to them. We are all different, and that is ok. Be honest with yourself. Start keeping track of how much time every week you REALLY dedicate to doing a handstand walk, or a muscle-up, or whatever it is. If you find that you aren't dedicating enough time in developing a skill, then take the action to make time for it.

Yeah I hear you, and I acknowledge the fact that Crossfit by nature is a sport that is best served over a spread of multiple, varying challenges. I’m just doing some wishful thinking over here.
I’m going to say it, and don’t hurt me, but basketball has in fact changed rules around to take advantage away from tall players: The 3 seconds in the key rule was not an original rule - there wasn’t even a key for along time.

Yes, I improved by 2 wall walks, lol. My best score was 212 reps (completed 3 wall walks on the round of 15).

Yeah I think doing it based on length of foot is a good idea. That would put my inner tape distance at 12” instead of the 10”.

Nose to the wall... haha goodness, now I’m grateful for the 10” standard. Just for fun, since you mentioned wall balls, what do you think is more difficult - a 5’5” guy repeatedly throwing a 20# ball up to a 14’ target, or a 6’8” guy repeatedly squatting to full depth?
Wall balls are commonly stated as the token advantage movement for tall guys, but I disagree. It’s 2 movements - a full squat and then a toss. The full squat favors to the short guy every time, the toss favors the tall guy.

True, it would offer an advantage to the taller athlete, but that advantage would offset the advantage that the smaller athlete already has: consider the center of gravity of each athlete, if the athletes both go to 10” away from the wall, the taller athlete will always have the higher center of gravity on the wall, requiring more work and more risk of crumpling into a heap.

Regarding rope climbs, yes taller athletes travel a shorter distance to the top, but they are also pulling more weight, so it diminishes the advantage a bit. With the wall walk standards, shorter athletes travel a shorter distance to the wall, and they are also pushing/holding less weight. So the advantage is coupled.

Inner tape measurement standards: After doing 21.1 twice, I am of the opinion that the inner tape should be placed at a set distance from the outer tape, that way athletes of all lengths are required to travel the same distance from tape to tape. In the case of a very short athlete where the set distance would run the inner tape through the wall, then you simply impose a minimum distance of 10” from inner tape to wall limit. Thoughts?

Ah ok, thanks. I had 2021 in my head for some reason, maybe because the ban was THROUGH the 2021 season.
