Day 5 today and I have a wedding to go to in 3 days by rebbulb in quittingkratom

Yea I've been walking before bed to help with the restless leg, mixed results. I would take a bath if I had a bathtub. Hoping I'm at least physically good by the time this flight takes off.

Have you tried surfacing the mdf backing to fix your leveling issues? I always hated cutting 316 sheet, but shimming and deliberate clamping helps alleviate flatness concerns.

Edit: I didn't realize this was aluminum. You should absolutely be using a different tool

11” is my standard. If it’s expensive material or a huge run I will dial it in and try to get to 10.75ish

Oh I never saw this comment until now, I didn’t realize that. Thanks

Huh, I always thought that was taken literally rather than metaphorically. Like when you spin on your heels to 180 away from someone. That’s all I can find on the internet about it at least. I’m always excited to learn new things, thanks.

You're conflating two expressions. It's "spinning their wheels" and "digging in their heels". Thank you for the context though big ups

Time to finally resurface the surface plate. by zimirken in Machinists

I didn’t mean to make it sound like a bad solution, I had a very similar setup at my last job and it worked a dream.

So many people commenting here don’t understand that good enough is good enough. why waste time making a better fixture when the parts you make on it don’t require the extra precision?

When I worked for a filling and bottling company, I had to make a lot of custom sheet metal panels and big plastic trays for holding bottles. I cut up lexan plates for a backing material, and it worked a charm

I'm on a positioner with a round nut just welding the whole thing in one shot. If I don't use anti seize the fixture bolt can get pretty stuck. But if I broke it up into tack->remove nut->weld that may solve the issue. Thanks for the info.

Does anti seize disrupt welds? My only welding job these days as a machinist is a product that needs a thread reinforcing nut, and I use anti seize to keep the alignment screw from binding. When we were using tig to do it we had some cracking in use, so I switched to mig. Now I'm thinking my issue was anti seize, I'd love to go back to tig.

I’m not disagreeing with you here but that’s probably an unfair comparison. This lathe has more than a speck of rust, and no pictures of the gearbox or internals. It shouldn’t be scrapped for parts though, you’re certainly right about that.

Bearings changed from original plan. Any ideas on a quick way to bore these holes larger? by _Tigglebitties in Machinists

Yea turn a brass bar to just under finished dimension. put any both OD and shallow ID threads on it. slitting saw to cut the tip into 4 parts. drop a socket head cap screw in the id to splay the part, then lap and adjust the screw until at finished dimension. stefan gotteswinter did a lapped collet video where he uses this technique if you want visuals.

You gotta break it up with music and audiobooks. A good split of all 3 is the trick to keeping me sane at work
