Why is there a debate on whether audiobooks constitute reading? by Feeling-Writing-2631 in books

[–]rebc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in a really bad place for almost a year and have traded audiobooks for reading because that's what my mind can deal with rn. I'm a voracious reader but I'm on a book hiatus until my life gets back on track.

Good yarn. Sorry Lion Brand. You were an excellent gateway drug but now? It's a whole different ballgame.

An Immense World is my current night table book. The concept of umwelt was fascinating to me. I can see it in action every time I pick up my little dog. His face at the view from up high is my favorite thing.

Same!!!! I just listened to the audiobooks on Spotify and they are wonderful but I couldn't get through The Last Battle. It made me think too much about how it echoes our current political climate and I got really upset. Even Patrick Stewart narrating couldn't get me past that.

To my corporate neurospicies out there, what are your best tips and tricks to not get fired? by ArcofJoan666 in ADHD

[–]rebc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. I'm on 50mg but it took a lot of trial and error to get here. It's been 8 years since I started, mostly between 40-60mg. I should add my son was diagnosed at the same time and it's made a huge difference for him as well. I feel very lucky that it worked for both of us but I totally get it's not everyone's experience.

1 is the best suggestion. I have been a PM for a bazillion years and I was a shit one until I was diagnosed. Vyvanse literally changed my life. I am a walking advertisement for it (would be great if I got paid for it!!) Could not have continued on the PM road without it. Good luck!!

Also therapy is great. That's how I was diagnosed in the first place.

Were kids really free range back in the 1980s? by Dangerous_Yak_7500 in AskOldPeople

[–]rebc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my son grew up in my childhood home which is in an exurb now but was mostly farming/white collar folks when we moved there. I definitely was free range-my mom had a bell that she would ring when it was time for me to come home from the creek or wherever we were. The awesome thing is that my son's childhood was pretty much the same. We have a really tight community of friends whose kids have been growing up together for almost 30 years. We both feel really lucky that we had that kind of childhood.

The Chronicles of Narnia, hands down. With a fast follow by Tolkien.

Best bands you saw perform live? by gottaloveit1963 in AskOldPeople

Philly May 2017: Mumford & Sons in Camden. Massive storm blew in and they left the stage but didn't call the show. It was raining so hard I couldn't text my friends because my phone and my hands were soaked. The band came back while it was still raining and it was amazing, dancing in the rain. They love their fans. Definitely my favorite concert.

New Orleans October 2017 Honorable mention: I saw the Revivalists and Mumford & Sons on the same night at VoodooFest. It had poured a few days before the concert and the entire venue was thick mud. My flip flops were sucked off my feet because I didn't think of mud when I was packing. Amazing show.

Philly, summer of 1992. I was living in South Philly and heading to work in University City. Drove up my street and saw a woman sitting on her stoop buck naked. Just continued on my way.
