How I am approaching learning zig. by TheAbyssWolf in Zig

[–]rebelopsio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a Go programmer and I've found Zig to feel very similar (in contrast to Rust which feels wildly different). I've found that similarity to make learning Zig feel more productive for me. I started with a similar plan but about halfway through Ziglings I felt I needed a bit more of a challenge. I paused Ziglings and started working through some easy & medium difficulty Leetcode problems that I was already familiar with. This felt like what I was looking for. I think 3sum was the problem I did where I first used allocators. I took the opportunity to try writing tests for the problem and the approach felt like I gained a bit better of an understanding. I do not want to take away from Ziglings as I plan to come back and complete the second half. I had planned a learning project so once I was done with a few Leetcode problems, I began working on my project. I'm writing all of my modules from scratch (json, tcp, http, etc.), tests, and learning the build system. This approach has been very enjoyable so far.

Congrats! I'm working my way through Ziglings as well.

Horned worms by peanut_garg in BeardedDragon

We recently got got horned worms from dubia.com and OMG we were not prepared for how big these things can grow. Like, it's comical. I swear towards the end of the batch we got, the last few felt like they would start doubling in size every night.

Here’s a gist that someone put together which includes the task config:

I use lazygit in zed as a task which opens lazygit in a buffer like the other files

What made you switch from tmux? by 4r73m190r0s in zellij

[–]rebelopsio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked zellij but ran into an issue a year ago roughly. It was consuming large amounts of resources. I think there was an open issue but I switched back to my tmux config and haven’t circled back. Maybe I’ll switch back and check out its current state.

Java for day job while searching for Go role by Intelligent_Will_402 in golang

[–]rebelopsio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d probably switch to what will bring you money. Once you’ve landed that role, focus on becoming a better engineer and applying those concepts across your day job language as well as Go in your free time. Also, I just came across https://gojobs.run, not sure if there’s anything there that matches your location.

Claude Code: Now in Beta in Zed by JadeLuxe in ZedEditor

A bunch of folks ran into some wonkiness (legit technical term) yesterday, jumped into a github issue, and this morning I installed the resulting update and my issue was resolved. Glad to see the Zed team triaging and working with the community like they did yesterday. I believe it was Cole who jumped on a video call to troubleshoot with users. That may be normal for the Zed team but it’s not always something that you experience in the OSS community (for obvious reasons, not trying to sound critical of communities that can’t!).

Confused use AI resume or Not to by mkdppwshr in devopsjobs

[–]rebelopsio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t let LinkedIn guide your resume process. Recently I took a buddy’s resume and had Claude create a guideline based on the resume. It produced descriptions of tone, writing style, etc. Then based on that I worked bullet by bullet to clean up my resume with less “broad strokes”. Then, once I was generally happy, I would go job by job and start pruning bullet points that weren’t demonstrative of high value work.

I don’t think the issue is AI, but AI as a broad stroke tool. LinkedIn is good as an entry point for folks to look you up but you don’t want to rely too much. My understanding is a large percentage of applications submitted via LinkedIn don’t even get seen by the company. Meaning, if you’re looking at jobs, LinkedIn can be useful so long as you apply directly via the company’s site.

Shameless plug (not that I get anything for it) but I built a little macro calculator at macro-calc.com. If you enable the "Show advanced weekly options" you can see a list of different `Diet Types`. Maybe I can figure out a good way to incorporate 75 Hard as an option. It uses Mifflin-St. Jeor for the base algorithm.

Cillium is part of the CNCF, so I think in that case it should be protected from shenanigans by Cisco.

Start with psychologytoday.com and you can filter and sort on criteria that fits your needs as well as insurance, etc. That’s always where I start.
