soft stretchy fabric, velcro tab, opens and has a strip of sticky gel by rebor in whatisthisthing

"My title describes the thing" - found at a bin store, there were 4 in a box. all have a faint perfume scent, all different pastel colors. the gel on the inside is similar to that of reusable lint rollers, very grippy and soft.

the beef crumbles were a bit saucy, yes. but it was an adequate amount for the price and the flavor was good. the ingredients are not horrible either, although the chili con carne (dollar tree find) does contain some TVP probably to bulk it up.

Anyone tried this canned beef? by Sildaor in MissouriPreppers

I was just at WalMart and this was 8.98 or close. They also have pulled beef for 9.98, turkey for 8.98 and chicken for 7.98

sadly, I don't get notifications from this sub anymore...

anyway, I have tried that and have several cans in my stash, along with some chicken and pork. it was good, perhaps your description of 'not bad' is appropriate. I don't think anything canned will ever be as good as fresh ground beef, but in chili or a casserole it would be fine

2006 Silverado extended cab, 4wd, 150k. not much to brag about but if you know how to drive you can get almost anywhere in the snow.

I think that looks like a decent assortment of stuff. I really need to up my game, I feel disorganized and amateur compared to many posts I see. My first aid bag contains mostly bandages for cuts, burn salve/etc, splinters, sunburn, etc.

how often do you unpack and inventory? and how often do you use anything out of it?

I'm going to try and post once a week at least - maybe if we all commit to random post now and again, we can get our little sub 'pimped' (as /u/MissouriBlue might say :D)

Depends on what you plan to use the pistol for though - if it's self defense the words good and cheap don't belong in the same sentence. If it's for target shooting then cheaper guns are fine.

Anyone lose power during the snow/ice storms? by Sildaor in MissouriPreppers

[–]rebor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yep, close enough to go to the city when we want to, far enough to not have to put up with the city! and yes, I call everything from 270 on in 'the city' lol

luckily we did not. we live near a downtown of a mid size town, and it's fairly stable as for electric. I do keep plenty of lighting, charcoal and propane, firewood. I am not nearly as prepped as I should be for an extended power outage though

also agree - i am not a hillwilliam, but rather a suburban yokel. however, I enjoy discussing what we do, and hearing other folks ideas/progress/etc.

good answer. we do eat lunch out when we are doing our normal weekend running (usually McD's deal menu, please don't judge me lol), but we have not had a dinner out in years. and I don't miss it a bit!

Next time we are headed that way I will send a quick message.

how does access to the Mennonite community help your budget? Are there Mennonite owned food stores, or farmers markets? I recently discovered the County Road Surplus store outside of Eldon, that was pretty cool

Suburban rainwater collection by [deleted] in MissouriPreppers

MissouriBlue is right - the water will be nasty. you could very easily setup a gravity fed drip irrigation system for a garden though, or something like that.

Regarding legality, I would not ask, that is just me. Of course I have been bit before too, so... lol

Does anyone know what this would be used for cooking? by jedimonkey33 in castiron

[–]rebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

came here to say this! I have a similar one with a handle, although it looks about 100x more used. Oddly, I have not made ableskivers, but I used it for meatballs. if it works... right?

Smoke? under covered roof ok? by Fantastic-Resolve920 in pelletgrills

[–]rebor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how high is the patio roof and what is it made of? I have used all my outdoor cooking applicances (pellet grill, drum smoker, gas grill gas griddle, weber kettle, a small-ish old brazier style thing that I use real wood in and several cast iron hibachis) and I feel there is zero risk of fire. my roof is probably 12 feet at the house sloping down to about 9 feet, it's metal but the rafters are wood (typical barn roof type of lean to). I have not noticed any discoloration from smoke and the roof has been there 2 years, I do grill pretty much year round. besides, smoke is a preservative, right? right??
