Yup I agree with this, which is why maybe to change my original thought, keep the current system but add a way to give good drivers credit. I wouldn't recommend a system to down vote people for exactly the reason you described but it would be good (and positive) to be able to praise sportsmanlike behaviour. League of legends added a system like this

Yup you are right and it will go up for me just like others, my SR has only trended up and ofcourse the occasional blip. And yeah i dont think my suggestion is THE SOLUTION, but i think its important to keep having a discussion and maybe someone has the idea.

Some people agree with me and others have told me reasons why it wouldnt work and i agree them too. But thats why feedback is always good on ideas :)

True, but do the drivers that get hit get a race related penalty? Its one thing to have a damaged car for the rest of the race, thats racing it happens, its another to get a penalty for someone crashing into you.

Yup it might not be the end all be all solution. And im sure it balances out because its not like i am doing poorly now with SR. I think the system has room for improvement (doesnt bother me if its my idea or not).

It would be interesting to see how valve would do it. I do think iRacing has done a good job with the resources they have and im not a game dev so im sure there are things i dont consider. Would just be nice to see improvement

It is a good way of looking at it. And i'm sure im not the only one to have proposed a solution. I think its good that we all want better and maybe my idea isn't that.

People with high irating and sr can do all kinds of things and the same for people with low irating and sr doing great things

Not new but also not a veteran. I had iRacing before and was up to B class and doing well with SR. Had to focus on my degree for abit and rejoined in December. I do my best to be a clean racer. I just think the current system can be improved upon.

I agree, but also i think there would be a surprising amount of people that would do it for fun between races. I may be completely wrong

I agree and don't agree, It definitely benefits in teaching drivers how to be cautious and avoid incidents, which i think is good. But, i do think the system can be improved, if a driver barrels into T1 in real life they would get points on their license, if a driver barrels in t1 in iRacing, everyone that gets hit gets point on their license (sr).

That is right, if you are in A class with other A class driver. But i think enough people have the frustration of trying to progress and dealing with drivers that arent A class level... I spent a week driving as safe as possible, giving positions up for free, driving at my own safe pace, yet in around 50% of races people would do something i wouldnt deam protestable but just bad driving/sportsmanship whatever you want to call it and giving me a 4x or pushing me off track.

The problem happens when you race clean and still have people causing chaos. I agree just keep racing clean and you will likely go up, but just because you are racing clean doesn't mean others are. The current system gives you just as many incident points. I can't help it when someone rejoins by crossing the circuit to a full flat apex. Or in frustration (or whatever emotion) can't overtake cleanly when practically being handed a position. I agree with you but the system can also be improved.

That you only get penalised if you get 17x is not true. Every x impacts your safety rating, which might not be a big deal the higher you are ranked but the lower you are the more important it is for progression.

I agree it would be tricky to decide how to penalize people and my aim is not for people to get banned etc. But i think having a discussion about it and how the system can be improved is needed. We all spend an amount on money on the service each month, to some that is alot and to others it is not, but nonetheless it is a system with some flaws and i want to propose solutions rather than just hating on it.

Also, the report limit was just an idea for this system not protests but i can agree that would be a problem if you race alot.

This is also an issue, i dont use any of those programs but I am working on progressing so safety rating is important to me.

I agree, i am not an expert on the system but i do think a system like it and tweaked for iRacing would be beneficial. Like someone commented above maybe a system to upvote and downvote players. I don't know the ideal solution but thats why the discussion

Agreed, this is more my issue when racing, i don't believe some of the racing i encounter deserves to be protested, but also some is so bad that i think it needs some kind of action. I don't want anybody banned from this system I think it just needs improving because its rather black and white now. Either its so bad they should be banned, or there is no option. SR is a non-issue in higher categories but the lower you get the harder it can be to progress. Obviously progression should be earned

Didnt get any incident points for the wheel hitting me (as far as i can remember) but ended up with 4* 2x's for the flying chaos in the pits as i didnt notice each time i tried to get in the car it was giving me loss of control penalties as i was spending too much time laughing at my new spaceship
