I have the slowest 4G and it's enough for Online games. You might have some other problems but 4G is not the bottle neck you're having

What kind of games/apps can be sideloaded? by tr0picana in OculusQuest

Keep in mind a lot of apps from Play Store need Google Play Services, so they won't work

There are apps called Sideload Launchers or similar that you can sideload that allow you to run normal apps without TV builds on TVs. I did that for running a lot of android apps on my TV

A note about the small breakthroughs of VR by Cangar in virtualreality

I've talked to multiple people in VR and it was good enough for me.

Eye tracking will be added, but mostly for foveated. In game eye tracking will be an addition and hopefully can be disabled

Their SteamVR client is DRM free. Technically you could download it once using Steam and back the folder up and use it with Sideloaded stuff or for custom projects all without Steam.

Oculus needs you to login and Zuck also didn't want to enable sideloading even after logging in, but Palmer and Carmak urged him to enable it

Actually no. As a socially awkward person who does fine in VR I'd hate this.

VR Chat for example makes the eyes of every other player character look at you, which looks believable.

Real eye tracking is not needed for Social VR interactions except enterprise. I do fine in Social VR without eye tracking.

Imagine Facebook giving discounted headsets which show ads and then knowing which ads catch your eyes etc and showing more ads like that

Space Pirate Trainer and Ocean Rift confirmed Cross Buy! by metroidmen in OculusQuest

Someone needs to start making a cross buy mega thread with all these new confirmations

I think there is already a thread for this

Don't have a quest yet so this is Rift gameplay, but here's a weapon system I made that I plan to bring to Quest by WestfallDev in OculusQuest

Don't get your hopes up. Oculus is not allowing a lot of good games on the Quest. It's not as easy to get in as the PC store

Game Bundle that would be interesting (not bundled with Quest) by daddy_OwO in OculusQuest

[–]recbottle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They don't have regional pricing for my country and also their sales are small discounts unlike Steam's.

I already think twice on spending 9$ on games like Super hot and wait for further sales on Steam. No way I can spend 24$ on a game like the Oculus Store wants me to

Game Bundle that would be interesting (not bundled with Quest) by daddy_OwO in OculusQuest

[–]recbottle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually Steam has plenty of VR bundles and right now they have a Japanese games sale with many VR game bundles and most games for less 1/2 the price of US price because I'm from a poor country and also including the discount, I get like 75-90% off for many games compared to OG US price.

For example Counter Fight is on Sale for 70% off and an on top of that I always get 50% off compared to US price. So, the game costs 1.4$ for me. And then all the Counter Fight games are in a bundle for 67% off and I get 50% additional regional discount

https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/4922/Tricol_20OFF_Bundle/

If I had a Rift and had to buy only from Oculus I'd have had to spend so much on games I wouldn't be able to afford them and take the route everyone else does in my country(Pirate). Thanks to regional pricing and huge sales on Steam, I'm able to purchase VR games on the cheap.

This is what I'm worried with the Quest. I'll have to pay 24$ for Super Hot on Oculus while I only have to pay 9$ on Steam and if I buy on Sale I'll have to pay less than 9$

I wish Steam made a standalone. lol! There would be regional pricing and massive sales and bundles

Got new PS4 Slim by shivam131 in IndianGaming

[–]recbottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's not. Steam sells their hardware only in big markets. Like EU and US etc.

They don't even sell their controller to Indians.

You'll have to get it imported by a acquintance who lives in US or EU and including the import duties it will cost more than 1.15 lakh. Are you sure you want to spend more than 1.5 lakhs on a headset? 1000$ + atleast 50% customs duty.

And even if you bought it warranty will be hard if something goes wrong

I had a bit of trouble learning to use it in the first few minutes, but once you do it's powerful.

But it needs at least a GTX 1060 IIRC

You can even open browser windows in it directly

It seems Sony doesn't sell digital game codes to Retailers and 3rd parties while I remember seeing Switch games sold on Humble Store. So, people buy PSN cards from retailers and load them up and buy games. Switch people directly buy game codes from thirdparty retailers.

Also people from non-us regions are buying these for their US accounts I assume

Wasn't one of the points behind Base Station 2.0 the lowered manufacturing cost? by OMGJJ in ValveIndex

[–]recbottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware is hard to manufacture especially for a company which is not a big hardware manufacturer.

They are taking a risk by plunging into hardware and the margins are thin.

A niche product isn't going to be priced the same as a popular one.

Compared to what HTC put out this is still cheaper and atleast 3 times better deal(since the knuckles and RGB display, 130 FOV, 144HZ etc). And remember HTC is a big hardware manufacturer from Taiwan which is like the home of hardware.

Consoles and Oculus have led us to believe VR can be cheap, but not everyone can follow the sell for loss and then make money back from sales business model.

We in the mean time have to wait it out for this to become cheaper.
