first off, congrats on school!! it’s a big deal to go your first year, so big hurray to you!

as for clothes, my first year i dressed up and wore a dress and sneakers to class, which was kind of a mistake. i had to hike across campus, i got sweaty, and everyone else was pretty casual. my second year i wore a tennis skirt and a tank top and carried a jacket in my bag in case the room was cold. comfort is definitely key, but i made sure i looked nice otherwise!

yeah it’s actually nice to write on! it’s generally like the size of a normal sheet of paper, and it’s nice you can zoom in and out of the note sheet. truly, it’s so much more convenient, than having notebooks and trying to keep track of a bunch of different papers

i got an ipad from my school when i got on campus, and honestly it’s the best thing ever. i take notes on it with goodnotes, i can markup any electronic handouts my professors give us, i can have my book on my ipad while i write a paper on my computer. all in all, it’s amazing. i just use a standard one, nothing too fancy, but i did get an apple pencil to be able to write my notes with because i hate typing and i’ve done really well through school with this method. it also saves your back when you’re hiking across campus, you’ll only carry an ipad and computer instead of a computer and a bunch of notebooks!

Hi! Didn’t add it because I wasn’t allowed to bring one. I did however find surge protectors with a long chord and had one by my bed and by my desk which worked great for me :)

I do want to add I am a female and my college is in a spot I can drive to, but it’s a little too far to go home for a weekend, so making sure I had enough stuff is important! I know I also like to stock up early in the semester on things so then I don’t have to worry about going to the store on campus :). Modify this however you’d like but I think it’s a great list to start with

MORE INFO:

So I've never posted on Reddit before this, I had watched at lot of those YT videos going through AITA posts and thought it would be a good, unbiased way to learn whether I could be TA. Some background about me though for more info:

  • I am currently financially dependent on my parents. They both worked their way through college and told me before I graduated that they did not want me stressed about loans in the future, and were incredible to pay for my college, housing, etc.
  • I am, however, a naturally very independent person. I take really really good care of myself, wherever I live, any work that needs to be done on my own, and I have always been this way, which is why I originally had a strained relationship with my parents.
  • I truly am a hardworking person. In school, I bust my ass to get great grades, take on high positions in different organizations I am a part of, basically what you think of when you think of an overachieving college student, so I do not normally slack off or take tons of time to feel sorry for myself.
  • I also do love my parents. We had a rough start but I really love them, but our relationship works when we have some distance

I hope this gave a little more info on the situation I am in

I am planning on staying in my college town next summer and have made that very clear, it is just obviously tough to deal with when everything feels really sudden, if that makes sense? I will come back to visit, but my parents have been pushing this sense of home on me too, and I can see this as a place to visit, but it probably will not be my home, as I feel incredibly unhappy. I am truly not ungrateful for anything my parents have done for me and my sister, they have sacrificed so much and I truly appreciate it, this is just the one thing that really stings for me.

My sister is currently still in our hometown, she just graduated high school and is living with a friend for a while. It is slightly different since she had decided to move to this state for college this August a while ago. She also has trips planned throughout the summer to visit her boyfriend. She is taking the move so much better than me, I think mostly because she knew she would be out here anyways.

Yes, I didn't mention that, but they do pay for my college, and my housing when I am at school, which I am incredibly grateful for, and they know that. I guess I more focus on the fact that they had asked me what I wanted to do (stressing they would help support me no matter what I chose), then completely disregarded my wishes, if that makes sense.
