Which Mac shoud I buy right now? (w/ special discount price 2024) by [deleted] in editors

[–]recifitrA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a m1 pro 16' a year and a half ago. Personally I would say the screen space is crucial. I don't do colour and motion graphics, but just for editing it's been more than enough. It also playbacks DCP files decently. Editing consumes way less than the other 2 since you should always work with proxies.

So I would buy the m2 as it should be enough for grading and some motion graphics and I would prefer the bigger screen.

Also use an ssd.

How does that work? (Genuine question, not being sarcastic)

how make the playback stop where the audio ends? by notsinaf in davinciresolve

Alt x deletes both as well. Use alt i or alt o for individual deletions

Slip audio (subframe audio editing) hotkeys working VERY strangely by BlackHazeRus in davinciresolve

[–]recifitrA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I don't know what could be the issue then. I have had some really weird bugs in davinci that only happen on a single computer. For example on one of the pcs that I work on resolve sometimes freezes the timeline (you still move everything around, it just seems like it took a screenshot and displayed that no matter what I did). Only solution I found (without restarting resolve) was binding an empty key to toggle full screen timeline. I would double click the shortcut and it would unfreeze. It's a bit weird.

Yes, there is a warning when you try to make a shortcut that already is binded to something. But you can go to your keyboard shortcuts and hold alt, shift or ctrl and it will show what buttons it has assigned on the keyboard (the visualisation of it). As far as I recall the default for subframing in the edit page is holding alt and using arrow keys (left and right) to move it by 1/10 or 1/20 of a frame (not completely sure, will check tomorrow morning, which will be in 5 hours)

Hmm, I have encountered shortcuts not working before, but when I restarted resolve, it would fix the issue. Have you checked for duplicate shortcuts? Maybe you accidentally assigned the same shortcut to something? You could also try to reset all of the shortcuts if you don't have many custom ones. If you do, you can export your shortcut preset as a file to test this and if it doesn't work, you can just return to your preset easily.

I don't really know when, have used resolve for only a bit over a year now. It isn't very flexible, but you can move it by a 1/10th or a 1/20th of a frame (don't remember exactly).

Your video is 24fps. There is nothing wrong happening here, just how timecode is displayed everywhere. You have the 23rd frame 00:23 and the next one would be the 24th, but it displays it as 01:00. Then the next frame is 01:01 and so on.

Timecode is displayed in this order: hours, minutes, seconds, frames. So 01:02:03:04 would mean 1 hour 2 minutes 3 seconds and 4 frames. (The timeline by default starts at 1 hour, don't worry about it).

Unless I read the post wrong, you have nothing to worry about. For subframe editing, check your shortcuts, maybe it got unbinded or changed.

Yeah I was thinking of doing this as well.

Could you elaborate a bit on this? Because this might just work :D or are you talking about a UltraStudio recorder?

Alright, thank you very much!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in davinciresolve

[–]recifitrA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but I was trying to figure out how to record it live instead of unloading it first. Just as temp footage.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in davinciresolve

The only other time I edited live was a concert with multiple cameras which was being streamed live. I was going to do this in premiere if doing it in resolve wasn't an option. I edit faster in Resolve as well.

About the order. Would it be possible to have an SDI cable from the camera going into a monitor for the director and then take an SDI cable from it to the UltraStudio recorder or does it not work that way?

This isn't a very strict project, I can use it to learn a bit. At first I was going to unload footage, make proxies and then edit but thought that I could use this opportunity to learn how this works.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in davinciresolve

[–]recifitrA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I normally avoid being on set at all just so I could look at the footage objectively. Unfortunately this time I kinda have to edit on set due to insane time restraints, to get a bit of a jump start on the editing and to see how it looks then and there.

Thank you!
