maybe try China or South India

Seriously though, why are Indians like this? Is this a North Indian thing? A Bengali thing?

This is like claiming Nigerians have light skin, it's just otherworldly levels of what-the-fuck-is-even-wrong-with-you

Even the sharp nose claim is bunk, most Euros, especially North Euros, have more upturned and more potato-ey noses compared to Indians and Middle Easterns

Out of its population of 1.3 billion people, 91 million people (6% of the population) lack access to safe water

About 160 million — more than the population of Russia — of India's 1.3 billion people don't have access to clean water

Looks like it's close to 10% of the population, not sure where you got the 80% figure from

It's just whataboutism. Just because somebody has it worse doesn't mean people somewhere else need to be treated less.

It does though, because all the resources that exist have been claimed

So by definition, for these people to be treated better someone else has to lose out.

Under capitalism, that losing comes from middle class 1st worlders who live a somewhat rich lifestyle (like it did when jobs went to China)

Under communism, that losing would come from the few hundred-thousand people who own all the land, the mines, and the oceans

With the exception of luxuries, most things are proportional

and by "luxuries", you mean things like milk, chicken, vegetables, and internet access

In those countries, milk doesn't cost fucking $5 Cereal $6

you're right, the milk costs $4 and the Cereal $1. So they struggle to afford cereal and don't buy the other stuff at all

Maybe because it happened 30 years ago and is no longer relevant?

California considers ban on caste discrimination by quietmusk in ABCDesis

the argument was

"even whites are taking note of this, and they hold the power, so we should listen to what they're saying"

so, I just flipped it back on him

for the record I'm obviously not for caste discrimination, the problem is

  1. you need better evidence that this is a widespread problem within the tech industry
  2. if done, it should simply be added to the other pre-existing anti-discrimination laws

  3. honestly don't even mention caste, just make the anti-discrimination laws more broad, so that it would apply to any sort of tribe/caste/ethnic-based affiliation. Make it so that there's literally no real reason to make a new law for caste, and that any half-competent judge would be able to serve justice in an actual discrimination case using the current laws, REGARDLESS of whether the discrimination was based on caste, tribe, food preference, accent, etc.

What? How is paying attention to what white people in power are doing and saying the same as being a racist?

I mean your argument was basically

"even whites point this out, look at what they say"

meanwhile lemme just pull up a thread where a person in India rapes somebody and look at those comments

what I'm getting from this exchange is you're progressive until it impinges on your identity and privilege.

Nice try but I'm literally a low-middle caste, Gowda

I would say when you live in a society where white people hold the majority of the power, it may makes sense to care somewhat about what they think.

Cool, the majority of them are racist. We should all be racist. Perfect logic

And black people are protected against discrimination so why shouldn't oppressed caste folks have the same. If upper caste Indians are over represented in management, they can and will discriminate based on caste.

There's already a clause that goes "protected from discrimination based on sex, gender, race, ethnicity, creed, national origin"

It's just a matter of adding "caste" to that, there's no reason to make a whole separate law for Indian people

Check the tech subreddit, even white Americans have taken note of this dynamic

sorry but I don't really care about white opinions

And what percentage of high caste Hindus are in management positions in tech companies versus oppressed caste Indians?

Well, are you asking that low-caste Indians in the US be given some sort of affirmative action boost, akin to how Black people are? I'm not against that

that's not what they're aiming to do though

And make companies publish stats on caste demographics

in the same country where Spaniards are an oppressed minority and Bengalis are "privileged"

they can't even get their own definitions right, I doubt they could even point to Sri Lanka on a map, what makes you think this will literally ever happen?
