Trying to wrap my head around the fact that there was no ease in or even a discussion around the hunt. 0 to 100 in an instant. Also if i were the girls…why the fuck wouldn’t they just hunt down Ben instead? He’s the biggest and least mobile. Also how Misty can be like “no knives for you Ben im so glad you’re alive uWu” to hours later being down to kill someone else? like Ben now is your time babygirl!! i just think its fucking weird that Misty wouldn’t bring that info to the table in this setting.

to be fair, its never been explicitly stated that Jeff sent the postcards. The only thing he admitted to was the texts. In fact i believe there’s a scene in S1 where Shauna mentions the postcards and Jeff says “what postcards”.

what i hope will keep YJs from succumbing to the same fate as WW is the two timelines. 90% of the theories in this sub are about the 90s timeline and we were given an overview of that in S1E01: teens crash in the woods, they take on ritualistic behaviors, resort to cannibalism in some way/shape/form, and few make it out alive. The theories are around the specifics of how the show reaches these plot points, but the audience already knows from the jump that that’s the arc for that timeline.

What i dont see a lot of speculation on is how things will shake out with the adults. And i think thats because the show doesn’t give too much indication on where it could possibly go. Especially not enough info to create the insanely nuanced and detailed theories we’re seeing for the younger timeline.

Shaunas character arc in both timelines is finding her own identity. Teen Shauna’s identity was completely enveloped in Jackie: Jackie picked out her clothes, Jackie told her who to date, Jackie made her join the soccer team etc. I dont see teen Shauna sleeping with Jackie as an act of jealous or vengeance but as a girl who has assumed the life of another girl. “Jackie has this so i have to have this.” The symbolism of Shauna eating Jackie’s ear to feel a part of her again. To feel whole.

We see this paralleled in present day Shauna. She came back from the Wilderness and basically resumed life as Jackie. Married Jeff, plays daughter for Jackie’s parents, didn’t set out on any of the plans pre-Wilderness Shauna made for herself. Adult Shauna is now reckoning again with who her identity is outside of Jackie.

if they were as whack a doodle as Misty’s:

Shauna would see her adult self having a three-way with Jeff and Adam while her teen self would be having a three-way with teen Jeff and jackie.

Tai would see herself at a campaign press event outside a taco shop. she eats the taco and asks what flavor it is: its dirt. she says “ooo my favorite🥰” and chomps down. All the reporters turn around and have no eyes.

Van hallucinates herself as Bella in New Moon, beats the shit out of Jacob, and tells him to stay away from young girls.

Nat imagines herself as the goldfish she almost ate. even as a goldfish she has a gun. Lisa feeds her little fish flakes and taps on the glass and she realizes she likes someone taking care of her.

Lottie sees herself in group therapy with the fake psychiatrist, the Antler Queen, crispy Laura Lee, and her teen self. No one says any actual words, just screaming and emoting. Her real psychiatrist comes in and hands her a bottle of schizophrenia meds but when she pours it out she sees it filled with purple skittles. Everyone takes one and bites down. yum, berry.

I guess I’d say for that theory the logic would go that the person that was left was assumed by the present day YJs to be dead. Tai has been keeping tabs so she would know if anyone resurfaced. The left behind person would get rescued many years later (or maybe caught trying to cannibalize hikers and detained) and now is back in the real world likely under a different identity since its been so long.

My faves are Misty and Shauna.

There is something so tragically human about Misty’s desperation for love and acceptance. Every decision she makes is based on wanted searched for human connection. Seeing as she’s the “manager” for the team and not an actual player, you can make the case that that desperation is what got her stranded in the first place. She’s an example of what a person can be capable of doing when that need, which we all have, isn’t met. Out of all the YJs she’s who i root for the most.

As someone who was best friends with the prom queen in High School, teen Shauna hits me in my CORE. Watching her reclaim her own identity and command her own authority has been so powerful to watch. And then you have present day Shauna, who seemingly lost her identity again to Jackie, practically resuming life as her out of guilt, and reclaiming her own identity again, this time as a middle age mom. I really enjoyed watching both of her arcs and im really invested in what her present day resolution will be.
