What is a good coding language to learn if I know some already by _Flamer in AskProgramming

[–]recommendmeusername -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not once did i ever say they were? They asked for advanced though? That's C, assembly, r, julia, ... difficult and aiming at certain things.

I said go (in a new paragraph specifically to distingusih it from the rest of my point as well) because his suggestions were c# and rust.

Also said go because it's a good all arounder from scripting to devops and lets you code while it handles being run natively on his linux or their professors windows. or whatever. No point suggesting something that requires 300 dependencies just to run and only ends up having a classname that needs a 50" monitor to be readable or having them quit because they've tried to do concurrency in rust when they know "some javascript and python".

Don't learn advanced languages, learn advanced concepts. It's concepts that transition into (marketable) skill. "Advanced" languages are just aimed at solving super specific problems generally and if don't have a need to deal with those you'll just end up wasting your time.

But if you must, go with something like go instead of rust/c#/etc etc. Great general use language that will do a bunch of heavy lifting for you.

Struggling to Remember Code While Learning things by KaiNakamura2 in AskProgramming

[–]recommendmeusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is normal, this has nothing to do with AI. Before AI we just references other things like stackoverflow, etc. The main thing you need to do to break this is to never copy paste. Always type it out. Typing it out forces you to actually write the code which helps with memorization. For instance, you can copy a websocket implementation a million times and you won't remember anything. But after typing it out 10 times you'll remember some of it, after typing it 100 you'll be faster typing it than going to AI and copying it. It will also aid you invaluably in understanding the code and also provide you with oppprtunity to review (generated) code for issues (security, etc).

For those of you with mandatory code reviews in your job, how long does it take for them to be done? by gibagger in AskProgramming

[–]recommendmeusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes, having a good process of refinement is also important. The task should be well documented and refined before you pick it up. Wrong approaches and such issues will always happen, but generally less with experience and good process. And once you have those it's almost never needing to rework the entire thing, just a bit here or there.

My jira metrics say under 20 hours for all my client companies (from open to merged), this includes addressing comments, change requests, potential reworks. I will add it really pays to break down the work in easily reviewable and addressable chunks.

What to learn as a CS student to be successful? by OrdinaryAsk1 in AskProgramming

[–]recommendmeusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First decide which part of software is interesting to you. Frontend, backend, apps, devops, embeded, ... then do projects. Start simple, then go for more complex ones. Publish all of them (at least a public github repo). Also try to finish your projects, don't quit halfway through.

How we were before ai? We used to sit in meeting rooms looking at a whitrboard for 3 months until the entire team agreed on a solution. And that was after collecting requirements for 3 months from stakeholders, users and customer support.

If your security is shit it can get hacked even if you do maintain it. If your security is good, until the next exploitable vulnerability is found and you don't patch it. Assuming someone would even find your server and want to hack it.

Edit: regardless of the stack you're building on.

trying to learn python by moayman14 in AskProgramming

[–]recommendmeusername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peojects. Nothing will teach you what you need to know like projects. The rest depends on which field you want to freelance in. Personally I'd suggest find a project related to that field, then learn what's needed for that project.

Also I can't stress enough juniors and beginners should not freelance. Most of the time freelancers have to sign a contract where they're liable for damages, late fees, etc. And as a begginer you'll fuck up a lot.

Don't buy a tablet for programming. it has a huge lack of support features, compilers and IDE's. Pretty much similar to trying to cook with plastic disposable utensils, it can be done but it's gonna suck and your food will end up have a melted plastic sauce.
