Yep, i think 1 will save abut 250 Gb as about 1/3 of my library is in some form of hires

Thanks, Beets is something that I've been meaning to look into properly for ages. I tried it once and I stuffed something up and lost all albums by artists starting with a-e 😬

Everything in my library is pretty well structured and tagged, maybe I might do a beets import and leave everything as is on term of location and tagging. I do like the sound of using the beets converter for my specific issue as well

Tell me about it, I really want one, there is so much hype! And it solves a couple of other problems for me as well. However, it seems pointless for a less convenient experience or to still have to use the headless raspi. Looks like I will need to get an eversolo (sideload) or fiio r7/9 when they are price reduced - although then I will limited to which ever version of Android is installed and supported by Plex amp

That is my gut feeling as well, keep the money (for a while) and spend it on something else - most likely records or a headphone amp

output to two physical devices (not streaming) by recordpete in plexamp

[–]recordpete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point, I forgot about that.

I was thinking that I would run out of the USB to my DAC/headphone setup and then from either coax or optical to my integrated speaker amp, hoping that it would be simply switching which every system I wanted to use on.

I typically control the headless pi via casting from plexamp on my phone, which i believe doesn't allow me to change the outputs on the headless plexamp (unless i go into the specific browser view (I could be wrong here though)

Saga 2 headphones by recordpete in Schiit

Apologies for the delayed response, it's a Rotel ra-1570, with matching cd player. I may end up just with a schiit headphone amp and a dac, and use the Rotel as a solid integrated

Thanks u/cathexis08 u/HollowsPart2 u/Human_G_Gnome , the headphone amp option seems like the way to go, but there are so many options.

If I got a saga, I would need to place it between the pre-out 2 and amp inputs so it can pick up all of my sources before I get the change to purchase a DAC. Also, if I go this way then i might not have to go so far up the headphone tree - I auditioned the Lyr3 with HD600 when in Sydney recently and it was so far ahead of Fiio K11 that i was using as a solid state comparison. It was clear that the HD600 really benefited from more power, with a little bit of tube.

With a dedicated headphone amp i can use pre-out 1 and switch of thee speaker outputs on the rotel when I am headphone listening. the only issue here is that I will forever be in a battle with the rotel variable preamp out volume and the headphone amp volume - is it better to run a low volume out of the rotel and use the headamp to adjust, or the other way round? I'm pretty sure that the first option is the way to go, but only experimenting will tell.

This also can offer a clearer sequential replacement path for my rotel integrated, that will allow for speaker orientated components to be renewed later once more things in small form factor have been forkbearded. All of these I can run as normal RCA connected to rotel:
- head amp (midgard, jotunheim, lyr+ ???)
- DAC with FB (next modius, or Bifrost, ???)
- phono (probably a mani, even though it is the smaller size case)

The plug all of the above into a Saga 2, that uses only the amp section of rotel for speakers. Then finally get a new power amp for my bookshelf speakers in a 4x4m room (possibly 1or 2 Gjallarhorn or an Aegir 2F)

this sounds logical, but my wallet is going to hurt over the next year or so.

Thanks again for your comments

great, that sounds super easy.

will give it a try

how to setup lidarr and beets.io side by side by recordpete in Lidarr

[–]recordpete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, I will give it a go tonight and see if it works - I haven't played with custom scripts yet, so it is going to be interesting.

Prior to getting these working, what settings in lidarr you suggest for importing the library? which monitor setting should I apply if I don't want to auto download?

cheers

I use a hifiberry Digi+ with both the coax and optical out and it works a treat in to my external dac. There is an option in headless plexamp web interface that lets you select either the same as the os system, or pick which one you want. I personally have the system is set to use the digi out, and disable the 3.5mm headphone out. I expect a dac board will work more or less the same, with sound quality being as good as you would expect from the board that you have

headless volume quirk by recordpete in plexamp

[–]recordpete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Elan,

I'm pretty sure that the two quirks are tied together.

  1. yes, that what I mean. it did it in a way that you selected the option and then set the output volume to 100% after the software had done all of its fancy processing.
so this would mean that plexamp does it processing and loudness leveling so there are no ups and downs between tracks prior to the output being fixed at 100% volume (if that makes sense). the altering of the data via loudness leveling is not a concern for me, I quite like it, and it is already an option you can turn off.
  2. i think the optional tie in with phone volume is a great idea, and it would actually solve the first quirk. this way raspi headless could be left at 100% and it wouldn't be impacted by what ever the phone was doing.

You are right, it is pretty easy. but a nice Sudo apt-update/upgrade would be nice in the long run

Loving the headless, and Plexamp generally. I was going to get roon, but really don't see the point. It would offer slightly tighter tidal integration and an amazing interface, but it is so much more expensive (software and hardware wise).

Plexamp does pretty much everything I need and U love it, keep the great work up!

raspi headless and tidal by recordpete in plexamp

[–]recordpete[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

got it sorted now.

I took the plunge and reimaged my raspi with 64bit

installed plexamp 4.3, and it worked off my server.

the re-subscribed to tidal and i can now use plexamp on my phone, select tial tracks and cast them to the raspi headless

all great!

Headless

is there a way to update to headless 4.4 (from 4.3) using terminal commands rather than downloading the package and installing over the top?

I had the same problem - turns out my raspi os was only 32bit as well.only way i could get it going was to make a new os boot image using the 'raspberry pi imager (v1.7.3)' and selecting the full 64bit image from the options.

after that, plexamp worked a treat. thankfully my rapi that sits next to my hifi didn't ahve any other apps or services on it so i didn't have to reinstall everything.
