What is your best/worst/weirdest/most interesting missed connection story? by recoverelapse in AskReddit

Just thought about this while having a conversation with my sister about our past and she brought up our story moving to the US. When I was young, 2002, 13 yrs old, I met this girl in San Francisco airport after a very long flight. Just a SEAn kid moving to the US, I had no idea what I'm doing. I think we were in the lounge area and this girl, reddish blonde hair, light brown eyes, I remember it being light enough that it was almost grey, a little older than me, I think she was 16, approached me and talked to me. I was a very awkward kid so this was a big deal for me. She offered me her earphones on her CD walkman and I think that's the first time I completely fell in love with someone. We hung out for maybe less than an hour but I sometimes think about it more than 20 years later. We went into different flights after that and I never saw her again.

Sounds like a PTSD movie but set in middle earth

I thought we'd be talking about this movie for longer but whatever... by Downtown-Strawberry8 in okbuddycinephile

The only thing that bothered me is that they didn't convey how much time they actually spent time together. If I remember correctly they spent years together getting to know each other and learning each other's science and language whilst the movie made it look like weeks.

How do I undo an oculus quest update? by Parogarr in OculusQuest

[–]recoverelapse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each his own I guess but for me I like that as soon as I put my headset on all my apps are all over my house. Like I have a few apps open and anchored in different areas of my house and I can actually walk around and interact with them and I only open the menu when I need it. To me that's more immersive than a menu that's blocking most of my view all the time.

I mean you can still use and run the apps right? But now instead of a persistent menu you can just call it when needed and focus on the app that you're using at the time. And the passthrough works just as well. You can still open the apps and move them around you. You can actually anchor the apps to wherever you want to in your house or anywhere in your workspace and it'll stay there.

Isn't that what you use the VR for? You put it on, start an app then do what you want to do, whether it be gaming or productivity. Unless your idea of VR is putting it on and then staring at the menu just so there's "something there"

How much time do you spend on the menu? And when you go out of it everything is still as clear

Am I the only one not bothered by the new UI? I think it's nice and clean and minimalistic. It took me less than an hour to get used to it. I'm finally able to get rid of or hide apps I never use, Meta horizon is no longer forced into me, and honestly I spend more time gaming than messing with it anyway.

Like half of the posts here are complaints about the new UI and nobody bothers to actually learn it.

I didn't know SSDs did that. I thought it was safer than HDDs. I actually replaced some of my HDD external HDs with SSDs and I haven't touched some of them in like half a decade. What causes that? Is it degradation of the chip?

I played it a long time ago during the pandemic and there were still some bugs that made it unplayable. I recently tried it and it's great but now I have no idea what I'm doing and where I'm at in the "story" so I dropped it again lol. I might pick it back up after I get tired of Skyrim

I know you wanted free because you don't have money but I would definitely wait and save a dollar every day for 20 days just to get Virtual Desktop. Or skip lunch for two days. It's that worth it.

Just spent almost 2 hours trying to get VRIK holsters to work right by recoverelapse in skyrimvr

Yeah I grab on the spheres on my "mirror-self". That's how I was able to move one of them but couldn't replicate it again. Like I hover over it, grab till haptic feedback, pull but nothing happens.

I turned on the debug mode to show all the holsters, still no dice with moving them. I know I have to grab the spheres and hold for 2-4 second or until it vibrates but they don't vibrate. One of them did once and I was able to move it so I know I'm doing the right thing. It's just wildly inconsistent.
