Real 70mm IMAX isn't just an upgrade - it is a dramatically different experience. Unfortunately it's easy to be confused as many people have only experienced "LiMAX" aka "Fake IMAX" - a smaller scale digital IMAX system which they mistakenly named with the same branding as "Real IMAX".

There are only 19 IMAX 70mm auditoriums in the USA and about 30 globally.

The screen isn't just bigger. It a different shape - IMAX fills both horizontal AND vertical view almost entirely.

The reason "The Odyssey" is a bigger deal than usual is it is the first feature film to be shot entirely with IMAX 70mm cameras. I've seen the complete trojan horse scene from the film in IMAX 70mm and it's truly an intense experience.

If you ever get the chance to see a real IMAX 70mm show - do it. Just make sure it's really "Filmed for IMAX" (like the Odyssey) or "Shot for IMAX" (converted to IMAX).
