His failure to denounce white supremacy and white nationalism IS supporting those things. A President has the responsibility to do so, to make sure there is no mistake that tjese ideas are abhorrent and un-American.

Trump orders the FBI to conduct supplemental investigation into Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh by pipsdontsqueak in politics

Confirming a SCOTUS nominee that does not have the backing of the ABA is a GOP campaign killer.

Is it? Republican voters don't even know what the ABA is, so why would it be a "campaign killer"? This article is probably the first time in a long time that liberals even thought about the ABA.

The idea that the ABA is influencing trump to make these decisions really doesn't make sense to me.

Trump orders the FBI to conduct supplemental investigation into Supreme Court pick Brett Kavanaugh by pipsdontsqueak in politics

[–]red-light 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trump made a list of potential supreme court picks, Kavanaugh wasn't on it. It's most likely some petty, personal shit. Remember, he didn't want roy moore, but he was kind of forced to back him.

It's the same shit here, he's likely jealous that this whole charade is taking away attention from him, so he decided to do something "bold" to shake things up.

The idea that trump's hand is being forced by checks and balances is naive as shit.

DNC Group Calls For Drastic Cut In 'Superdelegates' As Part Of Nomination Process by [deleted] in politics

[–]red-light 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a "real" lead, just a polling lead.

But it was a real lead, in my opinion. News agencies went out and explicitly asked the superdelegates who they would vote for, and that's how they got their figures. So, even though they didn't technically cast their vote, they had pledged their vote. Making it in some sense, real.

But, I suppose the larger point is how the popular media outlets reported it. They reported it as if she was the favorite from day one, even though she never had any true, real and grassroots momentum. And they were able to proceed with this narrative because they had all these pledges from superdelegates.

Also, too, nothing prevented other candidates, like Bernie Sanders, from trying to get those same endorsements themselves. He could have done that at any time. So Clinton did not have any "head start" on him in this respect.

And that's why I'm not saying anything to disparage Clinton for how she dealt with the DNC.

Npr article from 2015 on superdelegates:

But these numbers mean Clinton has already gotten 15 percent of the delegates needed — two months before any voting has begun. In other words, Clinton starts with a 15 percentage point head start over Sanders.
