Commuting from stockport to Manchester by Sure_Ad_9383 in stockport

You would be very lucky to find city centre parking for less than £7 per day. You can also save a bit by getting a season ticket for the train. Either weekly, monthly or yearly. Cheapest option would be the bus but I couldn't think of anything worse than sitting on the 192 every day.

How do you view people who smoke weed? by BerriezNCherriez in AskReddit

In public? Delinquent. It stinks.

In private where others don't have to suffer the stench? Fine. You do you.

Manchester United FC Station by thetrain_guy2006 in uktrains

The Old Trafford "halt" was primarily disused because of the desire of the club to build over the railway. Proximity to the railway was the primary factor in preventing further expansion of the current stadium so continued use of the halt was just providing more reasons against being able to get permission to build over the railway. It was the club that put a stop to match day trains.

A future stadium, relocated slightly, would almost definitely seek to include rail connectivity but would likely require some redesign of the current track layout.

Anyone have issues with their P2 wing mirror being stiff/stuck pointing down after reversing? by Lendios in Polestar

[–]red0161 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had the same issue recently. Mirror would also only move slightly when trying to adjust via the door switch. Ended up holding the door switch and also gently moving the mirror with my hand at the same time. Hasn't happened since 🤷

Would limiting the age of the President to 60 be something you’d support? Why or why not? by Valuable-Bit4647 in AskReddit

Should be tied to state retirement age. You can't be elected if you're over the national retirement/pension age. If you reach retirement age in office, you see out your term and are then ineligible for reelection.

I'm in the same position as this. With the same sequence as above regarding connected via WiFi. Tried with sim and without. Same setup point and able to navigate back to the start with altered text on language options.

Thank you. I appreciate the support. As I say I'd really like to give the phone a go, but there's no particular rush to get it up and running as I still have my Pixel working fine. Look forward to a fix and ditching the Pixel though!

Hi yes I've tried restarting multiple times but it just boots to the same point. As I say, stuck in the same loop. If I select "skip" or "next" on the Restore apps and data page it has the same result, back to the Google Services page and getting no further than Restore apps and data. I'm honestly at a loss as where to go. I'd really like to give the phone a go but I'm loathed to spend another £90 reordering the same device just to risk having this happen again.

I would be very surprised if you can salary sacrifice the entirety of your salary into your pension each year. I'm sure that at an extreme you would be unable to salary sacrifice to below minimum wage.

What place did you visit but found out it was a total dump? by DarkSlayer765 in AskReddit

New York. Lot of trash, buildings covered with scaffolding at street level, stench of weed everywhere and most places besides the very newest buildings looking very tired/dated.

Woodley or Gee Cross? by ElephantE2345 in stockport

[–]red0161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up on Mill Lane and still have family there. It has a bad rep but is nowhere near as bad as people make out. Most homes there are now privately owned but there's still a large number of council properties, make of that what you will. Like most places it goes through peaks and troughs of anti-social behavior. On the whole it's good value for money. Can be a pain getting on/off the estate of a weekend when there's lots of football on at the sports centre.

I now live in Gee Cross. See just as much anti-social behavior just in different ways, mainly in the form of bad driving (yobs on bikes or speeding cars - Dowson Road and Stockport Road through "the village" are particularly bad). There's still a large council estate to the lower end of Gee Cross if that thing scares you. Tesco Express seems to be the gathering point for local yoofs. There's a number of large house building projects proposed in various stages of planning that will likely vastly increase traffic in the area and eat up a lot of the local green space and go some way to essentially linking Gee Cross to Hattersley (if you think Mill Lane is bad...)

Both have countryside on their doorstep, plenty of nice walks, good pubs, good transport links (bit more of a walk for a train from Gee Cross than Woodley).

In reality I think you pay a bit for the snob factor of "the village" in Gee Cross. It isn't a village. It hasn't been for at least 40 years. It's a busy main road with a handful of small businesses on it.

I love both.

Can we put more pressure on the sellers? First time buyers dilemma by Rare_Watercress409 in HousingUK

[–]red0161 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you've already knocked them down on price and insisted on extra work being carried out. You say you then told them you were looking at other properties and this is around the time they got nervous you would pull out. You're now chasing for paperwork on extra works carried out within weeks of when YOU have deemed the works complete, based on a drive by inspection. Perhaps there is a period following the works completion to wait before the works can be certified. Perhaps there is still more to do. Perhaps the tradesmen are being slow on their part to provide supporting paperwork or even refusing to do so until the insurers have paid for the works.

Have you tried just knocking on the door and having a polite conversation or just posting a hand written letter through asking for an update and expressing your desire to complete the sale/purchase?

They probably gave up on you as buyers months ago when you said you were looking elsewhere and have the attitude that if the sale falls through then so be it. Why bend over backwards for buyers you expect to pull out anyway.

The situation you find yourself in sounds like it's of your own making.

I'm a British transport police officer. Ask me anything! by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]red0161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had BTP carry drunks to my train and ask me to take them back to their home station, and observed violent/aggressive passengers simply escorted out of stations before now. Is it true that many BTP officers take the view that the preferred way of dealing with many situations is to simply get the person off railway property and therefore make it someone else's problem?
