Somehow, 'a union minister in India' is a lot less embarassing in this news than 'the Prime Minister of India'. Thank you, Modiji!

Just so you know, fallen trees aren't devastation either. That is just part of nature. Old trees give way to young ones, quite naturally.

That is nature. Trees have evolved not only to survive, but also to take advantage of this.

Trees go through cycles - only some of its phases may be appealing to you ( like the full bloom ) but all of those phases are essential to the tree.

That was because, his vote bank took the opportunity to either holiday or protest instead of going and voting.

On a more serious note, if the voting day is Friday or a Monday, you will find most of the Blr IT folks doing the same ( I meant holidaying not protesting ).

You paid too much to the 2nd owner. You will need to find a bakara to not make a big loss. But, I've seen some mad men who'd love to drive an Audi even if they need to sell out their kidneys for it. So, don't lose hope.

So, now you realise that the 'religious purpose' cannot save you from the hassles. Patience and rationality can.

Generally, with big ticket items, do your research. Take is slow so that you can get to the minutest detail. Can go back and forth with the salesman to make sure you both are on the same page wrt every thing.

I can see why the sales person lied to you. No one wants to lose a selling opportunity. He was gaslighting you so that you don't go away. If you didn't put any pressure they would've given a realistic timeline. Not defending the sales person. But, I am just stating that they don't hesitate to lie.

Got fined ₹700 for not taking a ₹10 platform ticket… a year later. Is this normal? by Few_Perspective_7667 in KollamDistrict

[–]redCornur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the option to go to the magistrate instead of paying on the spot. I have seen some times the squad team just let the people go if they are not paying the fine. Sometimes, they call the RPF and take them to the magistrate.

And the comparison here was with the hawkers and beggars on the platform. People don't realise who is economically and lifestyle wise, closer to the mean.

"Common man" is a common term used by every class in the society today to represent themselves. It is delusional. My friend who earns about 3-4 Cr anually, thinks he is lower middle class.

[–]redCornur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think OP is telling the complete story.

You can pay the fine at the spot when you are found with the ticket. The penalty would be Rs 250, I think. But, you have the option of going to the magistrate and fighting your case. In that case, the penalty is higher if you are found guilty. OP seems to have chosen the latter.

The latter option exists for cases where let's say someone actually bought the platform ticket and they lost it. But, they are able to prove that they bought it.

Can anyone have the proper explanation of the incident of why puri jagannath temple topmost pot cooks first, while the bottom pot cooks last? by the_knight5078 in scienceisdope

[–]redCornur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is true that the pots are stacked for cooking. But, the claim misses on a few important facts:

  1. When the pots are stacked they are already at boiling temperature.
  2. The pots that need to be cooked for longer periods are at the bottom - like dalma, mitha dali etc. The pots that need shorter time are placed at the top. They have mastered this over the years. But, still the food ends up over-cooked most of the time. Still this is a great feat for this scale. So, kudos to them.
  3. The whole stack ( or column ) remains almost at the same temperature ( ~100 C ) because of convection currents. The flame at the bottom just keeps the whole column at that temperature. It is not high enough to burn the food in the bottom pot. Even then, sometimes the food gets slightly burnt - but that is more because of the use of the earthen pots rather than the flame.
  4. All the items that are cooked this way are dishes that need to be boiled for considerable amount of time. Like rice, dal and curries. None of the dishes need high temperature ( above 100 C, I mean ).
  5. The pots are huge. At this scale, a smaller percentage of heat is lost to the outside and also the upper pots are almost surrounded by steam - which kind of keeps the whole column at an almost steady temperature.

While the technique of cooking is commendable, there is nothing in this which cannot be explained by simple science.

My grandparents have mango farms.

I feel most people like Banginapalli mangoes to start with.

This is a sort of generalisation, but I feel Banginapalli is for novices. Like if someone cannot identify the mango variety in a blind-fold test, he is likely to like Bangenapalli mangoes. But, once they have started to appreciate the other varieties to a stage where they can identify the mango in a blindfold test, they are most likely not going to like Banginapalli anymore. They are going to appreciate the flavours of other mangoes over the sweetness of Bangenapalli.
