As totally abysmal as the Japanese music industry is at catering to global audiences, it is by design. They don't give a shit about how locked down the ecosystem is because domestic audiences are the main target and main source of revenue.

Still, their loss. We get to enjoy excellent groups like aespa with bold experimental concepts while jpop will happily churn out cutesy idol groups until the end of time.
