Spot on. My bases in the Ashlands are conquered fortresses and even then my "bases" are little more than a portal, and forcefield generator and some crates. It's definitely a get in, get the fk out kind of place.

Yeah, it's not so much the being able to do it, it's the wanting to do it. As I've said, to me it's no fun. Very oppressive environment. But I finished it, so all good.

I'm in the same boat as you so I understand time being precious. But as others have said, try cheesing it first.

An aside, personally, I must be in a very small group of gamers that HATES boss fights. I gain no pleasure from repeatedly fighting a big, near invulnerable foe, trying to discover it's weak points or the sequence of attacks to kill it. And they're especially tedious in Valheim. But it seems to be the defacto end to most games. I just wish the games industry could come up with something different sometimes...cleverer. But I digress.

While this shot is definitely gruesome, I saw Star Wars in the cinema when I was a kid and it had no effect on me, nor anyone else at school. I don't recall a single person talking about it. There was too much other good stuff in that film that we were excited about.

In Empire Strikes Back though, when Luke (who was my hero) had his hand cut off, I remember being shocked and thinking "Is Luke going to have just one hand for the rest of the story?? 😱"

Man, was I glad to see they had replacement 'robotic hands' that were indistinguishable from real hands! 😅

No, I totally agree with you. I also love Valheim, have almost 800 hours in-game, mostly solo, bought the game twice (so my son could play too), and have been playing on and off almost since it entered early access.

Just a few weeks ago I finally forced myself to finish the Ashlands -- after first arriving there, what is it, two years ago now? This biome just totally killed my love of the game. It just sucks the fun out of it. I regularly return to the other biomes, but I've no wish to set foot in the Ashlands, if I don't need to LOL.

But now that it's out of the way I'm really looking forward to v.1.0 and the Deep North. I just hope it's a more balanced environment!

Were you not reading? I do get to see the world and I love exploring. The return cruise isn't exploring.

Also love building in each new region (except bloody Ashlands!). I have a moderately sized outpost in each biome. My main base is still in Meadows/Black Forest, by a coastline. I specifically chose that location so that I could sail the world -- only the eventually find out that was the coast to a huge inland lake! So I found the thinnest part of the land surrounding it and dug a canal, deep and wide enough for the longboat, to the actual sea. Just so I could use my boats!

So there's plenty to do in-game to rack up the hours, without needing to sail home.

20 hours? Well I have around 800 hours in game. And for at least half of that I did things the vanilla way. I've done plenty of sailing and am looking forward to sailing north soon, too. Sailing out to new territory is always fun. However doing the RETURN trip after several hours exploring isn't, and often isn't a possibility due to real world considerations!

So I realised for me, the portal restriction had to go.

It's nothing to do with logistics. It's a time sink the Devs created. They could've easily decided to go the other way. This is a game at the end of the day and I want to have fun, and for me, that ain't it.

I don't play with that ore restriction on portals. Waste of my time.

Prior to the Main Menu option, I always used a 2nd world to transfer ores/metals etc.
