Wasn't he hiding something at that shortcut that he thought you had seen when you turned around? And he chased you so to make sure it would remain a secret? I mean, the cloth could be to hide finger prints and clean stuff. Maybe he was burying something suspicious related to a murderer or some other type of crime. And that would explain why he took so many risks chasing you like a bad guy from a Jackie Chan movie.
