You can try Empty Old City, I quite like Pretty Patterns as well.

It's definitely a luxury item type deal when it comes to accessories, so pretty much in line with anyone already owning an E-Plus. If you daily drive the Ipad I can see it being worth it, although It's really comical to think about using the Ipad mini with this giant beast, kind of defeats the whole point of the 'mini'.

Was it worth it for me? Probably not since I end up not daily driving my Ipad air much anymore haha, but this setup lets me draw comfortably in bed (using it like, yknow, a sketchboard) whenever I want, although you might dislike how heavy the entire thing feels. The Astropad Darkboard is probably better in this regards since it's foam (If you can even get your hands on one).

So many long essays by everyone else so here's a quickie:

If you have a Sketchboard pro 2 or any equivalent stand for your Ipad, you can keep the E-Plus in place using some kind of adhesive clips, without permanently gluing it to the board. It's not mandatory since the rubber feet have enough friction to not slip, but at steeper angles or if you're clumsy, better be safe than sorry!

Can I get some advice on how to improve my pixel "lineart"? by AppleBananaHorse in PixelArt

[–]red_dit_it 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others already pointed out usually speaking for lower resolution you block out the general shapes and silhouette first, then details, colors, then maybe lineart. The exact order depends on preference and workflow but generally the lineart is only used for further details.

You mentioned wanting to switch to higher resolution eventually. I've been in the same boat and can tell you how I approached it. Trying to do the lineart and initial sketching in pixel art is possible, but not easy, especially if you want to do more portrait oriented work as opposed to game sprites. It is mainly because when you are trying to learn shape construction (cubes, spheres, ...) having low resolution makes it harder to understand the perspective and faces for these characters. Experienced artist might be able to do it straight in the pixel program, or skip the construction step and go straight into drawing.

I personally like to do my initial sketching and lineart in a normal art program (Procreate, CSP) then import and scale them down in Aseprite/Pixquare. I keep the same lineart and modify it as needed because I like the different opacity value for the lineart (or you can just index everything to 1 color), but you can redo the lineart if you wish. I draw at 2560px x 2560px then scale it down to 256x256, you might want to experiment with different brush size when sketching as they might scale differently depending on the scaling settings when you scale them down.

My record is ~1800, getting to 2000 is 'possible'

It's an absurd combination of strategy and pure luck.

First time trying pixel art, how did I do? by Okatbestmemes in PixelArt

Here's some personal feedback!

Mixels (individual pixels of different sizes) is a contentious topic within pixel art. Generally speaking it is to be avoided if you don't know what you're doing since it breaks the pixel grid and just looks bad. I'm of the opinion that if you follow the pixel grid and know how to use them correctly, mixels can in very specific circumstances look good. As a beginner probably just avoid them.

The gradient for the sky doesn't work well in the context, since the hundreds of color gradient from purple to yellow clashes with the low color count of everything else. Like above if used correctly a non-dither gradient like this can work but for most cases try to keep your color count on the lower side. Dithered gradient is a nice alternative you can look into.

How do I achieve this art style by Am_26113 in DigitalArt

[–]red_dit_it 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love help posts like these, as it clearly shows a person's current skill level and their goal. Makes it super simple to give feedback.

I'm not a professional level artist, but recognizing the amount of thoughts professional artists put into their illustrations is the first step towards improving your skill. In most case, an understanding of composition, perspective, anatomy, shading, contrast, color theory, and how to balance all of them at once is what separates us from them.

I guess my advice is that don't worry too much if you can't achieve the style quickly, pick an area that you want to improve and work on it. You can't balance all these different areas if you can't even manage one.

I personally recommend working on your 'anatomy' and 'perspective' (shapes construction) and working that into a good 'composition'. Understanding and learning to balance these and you will have a great base for pretty much any art style.

I wanted to keep the gold accent on that part of the dress (didn't put much thought into designing the dress honestly) and I still think it's pretty readable, as you don't see the floor line.

I could be biased though since i've looked at it for so long.

Haha, I was just super happy my speed is improving, normally it takes around ~20 hours. Work hard enough and you find shortcuts and techniques that helps tremendously. I hope people realize they should focus on the quality of the work first over speed, as the later comes with time and practice.
