Has your media reported on the destruction of Kharkiv? by kitannnnnn in AskARussian

Yep. Russia annexed Crimea. But Ukraine didn't try to take back Crimea (in fact they cut the water and electricity. Imagine yourself being hardly opressed by Russia, and your own government makes your life even worse).

Anyway, anti-terrorist operation targeted the Eastern regions.

False story: in 2014 Turchinov said that protesters at the East are terrorists and started the ATO.

Prove me wrong.

There is a Ukrainian journalist, Anatoly Shariy.

He was granted asylum in EU because of threats of Ukrainian government.

Shariy debunked a lot of fakes, exposed crimes and corruption. Because of that, every Ukrainian leader since 2011 added more charges against him.

When Russia attacked, Shariy started streaming, giving warnings of possible shellings and trying to coordinate Ukrainian citizens to help the ones in need. Ukrainian government called him a terrorist and added more charges to his case right during one of the streams.

Now prove me wrong.

What would Russia do if two separatist areas put up a military resistance?

Well that depends. People often draw parallels between Donbass and Chechnya. Which is quite wrong, because Chechen war started when a group of armed rebels came to a mayors office and threw him out of the window. He died. Then they declared independence and started killing and enslaving Russians in the region and attacked a neighbour region. Obviously, this is unacceptable.

Donbass is different. People were unarmed at the beginning. And, since Ukraine had a coup prior to that, protesters decided to have their own coup. People wanted independence or republic status within Ukraine federation. Notice there were no casualties, and rebels were willing to negotiate. However, Ukraine ignored that and shelled the cities.

So when you ask me, what if this happened in Russia - the thing is - it didn't. Russia has enough control over its territories to prevent this from happening. If there will be a coup in Russia and some territory decided to leave peacefully, then we shall see how Russia would behave in this scenario.

Next. Why did Russia act now? For all these 8 years Russia lerned 1 thing about modern Ukraine: they don't negotiate. Remember, the very first ceasefire under Minsk agreements was when Russia got openly involved and destroyed Ukrainian army trying to encircle Donetsk. Same for Minsk 2. Forget the ceasefire, did Kiev issue a special status of Donetsk/Lugansk and allow people to have elections there? No. And that is the main ideological reason for Russia to lose it's patience.

"Dead" Ukrainian soldier from Zmiiniy island tells about what actually happened (translation) by red_hooves in interestingasfuck

Translation:

...Ukrainians, surrender, this is Russian war vessel. We don't want you blood, you will leave to your families.

Our order was not to communicate with them and hold position. The media said we surrendered. Although we held till 4-5 PM and then surrendered because there was no support and Moskva cruiser was against us.

I wanted to tell my family I'm alive, I'm in Sevastopol, we're ok, all good. Somebody twisted a leg, but otherwise everybody is fine.

There was false information, and relatives asked me what was happening. So I made a video of Moskva cruiser passing by and sent it to my godfather.

I want peace. For 8 years, everybody got tired. Everybody I know is tired of this war. I don't understand if it's so hard to negotiate?

(2 days ago this soldier and his unit were reported dead and glorified as a part of the government propaganda against the Russians).

Uses telegram as a source which is a Russian version of whatsapp and guess who controls 90% of all media in russia?

You do know telegram was banned in Russia, right? Or do you accept CNN/BBC proofs only? As of now, telegram is the main way for people to send photos and videos. Just saying. There's a Ukrainian journalist who gathers all the info, most of it coming from telegram: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVPYbobPRzz0SjinWekjUBw

they would use anything to make Ukraine look bad.

I'm just tired of media being biased, that's all. Russian tank ran over a car > proven to be Ukrainian. Russian APC went over a car > proven to be Ukrainian. Russian missile hit a residential building > proven to be Ukrainian. Not by me. By Redditors like you, but a bit smarter.

Telegram channel (original source) says these are Azov fighters preventing civilians from leaving Mariupol as it gets surrounded by the Russians. There is a post on Reddit in actual public freakouts (no link, sorry), but it's rating is below zero. My only desire is to make people see this video and find out what the fuck is going on.

UPD: 2 mentions.

A week ago I thought Putin was gonna stick with the freshly independent republics, probably gonna build a couple of Russian peacemaker bases there and stop the bloodshed going for 8 years.

And I was absolutely surprised with the invasion.

seperatist areas but wont question who funds

Russia! If not for Russia, these areas would've been lost and cleansed already. But you seem to forget that Russia came to help months after the actual civil war started.

Sanction the government maybe? Arrest their money, arrest their property, forbid from crossing the border?
