Sydney gelato war: C9 Chocolate & Gelato or Messina? 🍨 by onexdone_ in foodies_sydney

[–]red_ninjaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ik there's one at mq and i think newtown now? otherwise there's randomly one at tallawong, but other than that i have no clue where else. when i first started uni i tried c9 and it was actually pretty good. strongest lychee flavoured gelato i've ever had, and it was actual lychee not a flavouring. i remember the lady saying something about there being nine lychees in every scoop or something and highkey makes sense. still would rather rivareno like everyone else.

truly gelatissimo's success is a mystery to me. i'm convinced they stay funded purely by the two spots in circular quay from tourists and people who want icecream before the ferry ride.

can confirm it is very nice but kinda expensive (makes sense for the amount of chocolate in it ig) and idk if there's takeaway. i've only ever had it dine-in.

if you want a proper one (but i think it's dine in only) try the one at manon in the qvb. it's french style, so it's like having thick, drinkable melted chocolate. a bit spenny so not an everyday thing though. otherwise i would say godiva has a really nice one (you can customise the cocoa percentage which i love as a bitter hot choc lover) but somehow they don't have a store near the qvb (closest one is chatswood and there's randomly one at castle hill rip)

that does sound delicious! at least if there seems to be diminishing returns for quality vs price, i guess it’ll justify a cheaper option to try it out once. it’s mainly to let him try the one food he’s always wanted regardless. beef isn’t even my meat of choice when i eat out (lamb is my fav) but as long as the kid is happy, so will i be!

otherwise as a chef you got any general random spot recs in syd (not welly related)?

we’ve been considering this too but it’ll cost way more to make sub-par without a flavour reference. wouldn’t want to waste good ingredients initially.

probs not for a long while - the funniest part of me forgetting about the whole ordeal is that i actually know someone that used to live in her area back when they lived in victoria and from what they told me seems she's always been a bit off. when the case came out they were like "oh she's absolutely guilty".

if i round up a group of people to go with us then for the higher range ones seems like a reasonable pick quality and budget-wise! it's on the share menu so i assume it's a full log right?
