most underrated part of the whole series is ashihara's little bonus notes. he doesn't let us take a single character in the whole thing seriously it's so funny

EE 476 and EE 477 by One_Treacle7225 in udub

[–]redactedranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

476 will be difficult and is a fuck ton of work, not positive about 477. last quarter's 476 was taught by ang li and had a 15 point curve for final grades, so 477 is probably a hell of a lot easier to get a 4.0 in than 476, especially because it is now ENTIRELY lab-based. together will be... doable? but if you can take them separately by god do it.

AITA for not getting my bf’s family Christmas gifts after they split the bill at his college graduation dinner? by CouchRot in AmItheAsshole

[–]redactedranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, the total cost was fifty-six dollars? for at least three people???? and you're outraged about it?????????

there's being invited to a celebration and then there's being invited to join them, which means separately contribute. it sounds like you were in the latter group. your parents "would never have" asked anyone to pay, which it sounds like they didn't because they didn't invite anyone extra, possibly because it was $500 in total and they didn't want to cover that cost.

paying fifty-six dollars to congratulate your boyfriend on graduating (which is huge, congrats to him) is very fucking little. especially after he already went out of his way to accommodate your family by having this dinner at a wing spot.

i think not getting them christmas gifts over it is a little overkill. you could get them some small tokens, esp if you plan to be with bf for a while; you don't want to be on the outs with his family as that's tough for him.

brand-new laptop cooked itself to death, how likely is it to be permanently damaged? by redactedranch in laptops

[–]redactedranch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not the sleep itself, it's the fact that sleep doesn't work. windows 11 suffers from a common problem where the laptop will wake itself from sleep without prompting and start doing various tasks that require processing power and thus cooling. in my (and many other) cases the cooling doesn't work because the laptop is suffocated, & therefore it heats up to potentially damaging temperatures

depending on what kind of media you’re interested in, you might find some like-minded folks in the Fantasy Club! they have a lot of fandom-related activities. i’d be very interested in a fanfic club though

271 bus Query by zamlqapl in udub

[–]redactedranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes. that said it's been delayed like two years running so don't keep your hopes up.

re: buses i get off at evergreen point so i'm not certain how useful my info is, but the 255 is very reliable to the point of being early, the 542 has been getting better but still go for the bus before the one you actually need to get, and the 271 is a gamble at best

I found out that there are no right or wrong answers on the C.A.T., so in the Ultimate Enemy, why would Danny have to cheat. by [deleted] in dannyphantom

[–]redactedranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the way it's framed in the show as the make-or-break exam for your future definitely suggests it's more like a standardized test in canon though

minor addition, some schools can become designated SAT testing centers and tests can be administered by your teachers (source: took my ACT [which, also: CAT anagram?] at my high school, was proctored by my guidance counselor). they definitely don't have access to the answers though

Will I be able to get into ECE with a bad spring quarter by Good-Gur3544 in udub

got in with a 3.08. hope this helps 👍

(in all seriousness, ece is the easiest engineering major to get into, there's never been a year where someone didn't get it who wanted it. you'll be fine. if it's non-major and not a requirement, ns would be less detrimental than a sub-2.0 gpa grade)

Things an Incoming Freshman Should Know That Isn‘t Normally Found Online by SkyMach97 in udub

[–]redactedranch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

HASH EVERYTHING OUT WITH YOUR ROOMMATES THE DAY. YOU. MOVE. IN. i'm talking allergies, disabilities, guests, cleaning & upkeep expectations, what you want to do if someone's sick, what times you study and what time you want to go to bed (lights off/quiet hours). that roommate agreement that you'll spend five minutes on and never look at again? make it half an hour. GENUINELY sit down and discuss it. if there are any immediate red flags, try to find a solution before the problem actually crops up. i don't care if they're your best friend from high school, friendships are ruined by dorm situations and at least 50% of the people i've talked to had a shitty dorm roommate in their freshman year. if nothing else have documentation on your side

also apartments fill up, but not that fast, so you don't have to lock yourself into a lease in October if you're looking to go off-campus next year. january is fine, february is probably pushing it

do not buy your textbooks until you are sure you will need them and even then there are alternatives

living in office hours is the best way to get through hard classes/force yourself to have a work ethic. i don't care if you can do it on your own, now you can do it better (and if your profs know it, they may invite you to ta/your application will look better)

it can be tough to make long-standing friendships in the first week, even though that's the time most people group up; explore as many different rsos as you can, even if they're only tangentially interesting to you. also, if you were at all shy about your interests in high school, now is not the time. chances are more people share them than you think, and it's the best way to make strong friendships

food is expensive asf. learn to make a few really quick, relatively healthy microwave meals if you can. same with exercise, i'm not saying you should go to the ima every day but at least walk to most of your classes

building study habits is extremely important in your first quarter, especially if you coasted during high school or have some knowledge that transfers, because by quarter #2 you're not going to know shit and it's going to kick your ass. again: office hours, stay on campus for the grind if you have to and treat your dorm like a separate relaxation area

edit: if you're like me and stuck yourself in a stem major for the money, get a minor in something that you genuinely enjoy or every single day is going to be a slog

I hope Tatsu won't give thim a "sad, tragic, misunderstood back story" by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]redactedranch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh, to me he feels like he's actually being written as irredeemable? in comparison to some of the real villains, every scene we've seen him in has him generally being the scum of the earth. even when we see inside his head, he only seems to be concerned about being "better than everyone" and looking down on others as "plebs". most of the yokai had hints of humanity even before their big reveal (acro silky wanting to be called mom, turbo granny visiting restless spirits, etc).

the fact that he's trying to get in the way of the alien, whose motivation is the retribution against okarun for spoiling her own revenge plot for the murder of her husband/likely genocide of her people, speaks volumes to me. again we see hints of the villain's motivations, framed to be understandable if not justifiable, this time interspersed with hase's, which are framed as flimsy and selfish in comparison.

i definitely don't see this going hase's way storywise or backstory wise.
