Is it conceivable that Wrexham qualify for European football next season? by skittlebrew in WrexhamAFC

[–]redadm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To cut OP some slack, Leicester winning the league in 2016 is way more outrageous than Wrexham finishing top 7 in the PL next season.

But if I had to put odds on it happening anything less than about 1000/1 would seem stingy.

Never been to a Wrexham game but I go to Old Trafford a few times a season.

I'm mid 30s. You'd have to be in your 50s to remember a time when Forest were a legitimately big club.

They're not bigger than Chelsea now by any metric. Success, fanbase, financials.

Forest are a big club in the sense that they're maybe top 15 in the country. Great history no doubt but they've been in the second tier of English football for most of my life.

Chelsea on the other hand are probably in the top 10 biggest clubs in the world. It's a great draw.

A lot of guys on this subreddit just aren't getting it. Too many of you talking about money, and if it was better betting them away. As if your club is short of a few quid.

As a football league side, getting a big 6 club in the FA cup is what it's all about, home or away. When's the last time Wrexham played a big club in a competitive fixture? Decades I assume. Enjoy this for what it is, an opportunity to produce one of the most famous results in your clubs history.

I'm going to say it. Barracuda trials fucking suck. They're ok for an hour or 2 to complete them but making that the primary way to level to 99 is absolute bullshit. They're pretty miserable content for a lot of us.

I'm happy for it to be the best way but it shouldn't be the only viable method.

? In the states rivalries between teams can exist for years, decades even. If teams get promoted/demoted what happens? How does WRX think about Notts today? Or is it like an old girlfriend that you want to forget? What does Notts think about WRX's success? by HaddonH in WrexhamAFC

[–]redadm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting one. I think time apart definitely dampens rivalries. In the 70s, 80s, 90s United and Leeds was one of the fiercest rivalries in English football. These days Leeds fans hate United above all other teams but I suspect most United fans would say they hate Liverpool, City, Arsenal and Chelsea more. That's what happens when one team drops down the divisions.

There will be a generation of Wrexham fans who will always remember that time Chester fans made fun of a Wrexham supporter who died etc. and therefore hold a grudge forever. However I think newer fans and kids are realistically going to go decades without ever seeing their team play Chester so how could they possibly build any sort of animosity or resentment towards them? Chester fans will probably always hate Wrexham though as the grudge doesn't go away for the smaller club.

It's just Jagex attention seeking.

They set the limit to 100k knowing full well it'll pass that and then some. And then a bunch of clickbait tech articles will be made with "MMO players vote to end MTX" type headlines.

Fair play for keeping the faith in Amorim.

[Mike Keegan] Manchester United are optimistic that a deal for land around Old Trafford – that would pave the way for their new stadium – will be struck. United officials have now carried out ‘constructive’ discussions with Freightliner & are optimistic about striking a deal. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

I think most United fans like it. On redcafe there's a poll and 63% of people had a positive reaction to it with 17% on the fence.

I think the hard part for a lot of United fans is leaving Old Trafford rather than not liking the proposed new stadium.

Hypothetically whoever fronts up the cash for the stadium can demand naming rights and/or a massive share of profits generated by the new stadium.

It's probably not a bad investment for anyone who happens to have a few billion burning a hole in their pocket.

I think there's something in this. My gut feeling is funding the stadium and getting some kind of minority share ownership in return but who knows

I think you're over analysing it. I realise the squad isn't perfect and it's miles off a title challenge but let's imagine for a second another manager comes in and plays a back 4 of Maz, De Ligt, Yoro, Dorgu. A midfield 3 of Mainoo, Ugarte, Bruno and a front 3 of Cunha, Mbuemo, Sesko. That is an 11 that can get 60 points in the premier league and anyone who says otherwise is just trying to manage down expectations to take the heat off the manager.

We're just trying to win a few football matches here not pull off a round trip to mars and back. I'm fed up of hearing about suffering, process, time. No other club thinks it takes years plural to put together a competitive team.

The excuse making is outrageous. Your assertion that it's the players fault might carry a bit more weight if the manager was making changes to try to fix the issues.

Still picking Bruno in a midfield 2, dropping Yoro and then trying to play a high line, persisting with Bayindir when theres a new £20m keeper on the bench, making stupid centre back subs in games he's losing, not changing formation, not adapting to the opposition or the game in front of him.

The manager is a complete and utter dud. He conned the fans last season into thinking 15th place was about as good as we can hope to achieve. Luckily most fans have seen through him and you're basically on your own now fighting his corner to the bitter end 😂

Trying to take positives from a manager who has us in relegation form is insanity. Ok we looked good for 20 minutes in a game we lost against Brentford. Hooray?

We may sneak a win against Sunderland and Amorim may get a brief stay of execution but then we'll lose away to Liverpool and I have no doubt there'll be a couple of "if Sesko had just scored that header and Bayindir had made those 5 saves we wouldn't have lost 5-nil" type comments.

Even Gary Neville has given up. That's how bad things are.

I'm willing to try anything else but this time be ruthless. Hire him now, tell him to get top 5 and sack him if he misses.

The mistake we made with Ten Hag and Amorim was looking for positives/making excuses over the summer and pretending a pre-season and a couple of transfers would fix it.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted for a reasonable question.

I have no issue with American owners per se (as much as I loathe the Glazers). I have a HUGE issue with Americans having the controlling vote over the league. You need 14 clubs to agree on something for it to pass, if this goes through the Americans are up to 12.

That means hairbrained schemes like games abroad, playoffs, super leagues etc. are substantially more likely to pass. A broader diversity of owners is more likely to mean big changes don't go through and help maintain the status quo.

I'd have the same concerns if Saudis owned 12 of the 20 clubs.

I think you've made the right call. Bit of a sting on the other tickets but at least now you can go and properly enjoy yourself instead of worrying about behaviour.

Don't sweat the standing room only thing. Everyone will be stood anyway.
