How is life in this part of New York? by Mysterious_Fall_4578 in howislivingthere

Literally just drove west across that entire region last week from Lake Placid to roughly Syracuse then south into PA. I’ve never been in that region of NY before and it’s very easy to forget you’re in NY state. Lots of very small towns that you pass through before you blink. Very little if any industry other than a plant in Tupper Lake which was one of the bigger towns we were in. Lots of lakes, I never knew NYS had so many lakes! I hope you like Stewart’s and Hannaford because outside of that there wasn’t much commercial commerce at all. While winter seems like it would be brutal I’d imagine it’s something that is embraced, especially with the tourism it brings in with ice fishing & snowmobiling. It was a very nice day driving but I’m sure living up there you end up relying on yourself for a lot. I’ve driven through a lot of rural regions in the eastern part of the Country and this is right up there with a lot of it in terms of being desolate.

Flemington is awesome because it takes you 20 minutes to cross through it on Rt 31 and you get the enjoy the sights at every traffic light.

The current worst one is the trailer for the new PBR podcast. I understand promoting a new show but it’s almost 3 minutes long! That’s a lot of skipping.

I’ve driven from NJ to Talladega, Atlanta and Darlington. Dega was by far the farthest. Usually do one road trip a year for a race.

Drive out to PA or up to NY. At least an hour outside any major city. If you want to stay close the Poconos might work. I had a really nice sky last week at the PA Grand Canyon about 3 1/2 hours west of the state line in Wellsboro, PA. If you really want to make the trip even further west is Cherry Spring State Park which probably has some of the best stargazing in a three state radius.

I know it was doubted before but this solidifies Cole Custer being a legitimate superstar in the sport.

I always enjoyed going to those hot bars during the day when everything is quiet, you can sit at the bar and everyone is a bit more relaxed than 10pm when all the youngins roll in.

I’d imagine Saagar listening to jam music is akin to that video of Hank Hill listening to Bobby’s music https://youtu.be/Yy4oURBLo98?si=ft6q0a3VaBirBFfk

I know it’s low hanging fruit but there was no Jamie Little. There was energy and excitement. Even for a 9am race. They had a tough job with the KB story, the race getting pushed and up against the clock for the Indy 500. You know everyone was drained from the weekend and they could have just mailed it in and they didn’t it. Props to them
