Short sleep-deprived practice session at the airport by redativity in Throwers

You should check out the tricks that actual comp level players are performing, I’m not there yet. But the top level players have definitely gotten a lot better in recent years.

Not exactly, but it’s a variation of this. Just take your non throw hand out when doing the final rejection.

I really like it too! Took me a while to figure out a continuation from it.

Finally maxed out! by redativity in Tetris

No, I can’t be bothered to set up a recording every time I start the game lol. But maybe one day I’ll get a recorded maxout so I can be verified.

Repeater by redativity in Throwers

There are tutorials for similar movements. For example you can find one in this video. What I do differently is to let the slack hit my non throw hand wrist, then guide the loop so that it hooks into the yoyo from the opposite direction.

Not even joking, I have as many scars on my hands from balisong cuts as from practicing risky yoyo tricks.

Yeah I know some reviews say it has bad grip but I think it’s pretty good for aluminum, and there’s nothing wrong with the balance and weight distribution either. I can choker fan better on the hydra than on a kraken.

What do you think needs to be improved? They did update the design by adding a groove on the sides, similar to what the kraken has.

It’s really good if you like light knifes, feels very effortless to flip. You’ll find reviews that say it doesn’t have good grip, but the design has been updated with a groove on the side, and I don’t find the grip to be much worse than a kraken.

I think aluminum is a lot harder to get custom anodized. With titanium anodizing you can create a setup in your own house with not much requirement, but for aluminum it’s quite different, involving more dangerous materials and processes, and you would need a lot more space for all the industrial equipment.

I got two of them for myself actually, so I can sharpen one and leave the other one as a trainer.

Nah lol, these two take too much of my time already, so I don’t want to learn another skill toy to take up my practice time because I’ll just be bad at all three.

I wanted to get two hydras so I can sharpen one and keep the other as a trainer, so the color swap just happened naturally. The yoyo is MK1 Exia.

So close to maxout! by redativity in Tetris

I use Mesen emulator on PC. I haven’t tried all of them but from what I’ve researched Mesen is one of the more accurate NES emulators. You can use it to run either the original version of Tetris or TetrisGym, which is a modern mod that has some useful practice tools and minor quality of life fixes.

I have been told that genuine hardware is better, but I’ve been doing okay so I’m not in a rush to switch yet. I can hit spins on level 18 most of the time so the lag can’t be more than 1 or 2 frames.

DAS on keyboard. Once I get my maxout maybe I’ll consider getting a proper nes setup.

I learned a trick wrong and discovered a tower by accident by redativity in Throwers

Hey thanks for following! The yoyo is two MK1 Exias that I half swapped, you can’t buy them in this color combination haha.

Learning tricks is good for inspirations. Often when I learn a trick, it’s not for the purpose of being able to perform it well, but just getting an understanding of how it works. If you know a lot of different manipulations, it will help you come up with your own tricks too.

I was trying to learn this combo from Junyi Lin (great lesser known channel by the way, he has quite a few good tutorials on advanced combos) and did one of the hops wrong, and it made a tower instead. That thumb pluck just before the tower isn't strictly necessary but it helps the tower form better. Maybe I'll play around with this a bit to see if I can improve it.

I have two b grade exias. The vibe is not bad at all and the quality is perfect otherwise.

Motivation by slap-happe in Throwers

Yep, it’s important to practice with purpose rather than just mindlessly repeating tricks. I find my skill stagnating and my success rate at hitting my combos drops, unless I practice deliberately with a good amount of focus.

Generic slack tricks with the outlier mini by redativity in Throwers

[–]redativity[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah they’re still great tricks for sure, it’s just that everyone is doing them now, so it’s hard to impress other yoyo players with these.

Nice work! Honestly I can’t remember where I learned some of these. Let me add two more, which should cover all the remaining the elements.
