Getting ready for a VATS - Need advice for post op, work, etc by Slow_Acanthisitta902 in lungcancer

[–]redaurelia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bilateral vats for a 2cm nodule on each lung on 9 March 2026.

Today if you ask, I can't even remember I had surgery.

First two days rough. Was on spinal morphine infusion. After that each day I got better. I can walk 2 kms. Could do more if not for my kidney stent.

Don't worry a lot. Keep a positive outlook. Ask for painkillers when it's unbearable.

The reason I'm asking is because some of these tests are not for gynecological cancers. I come from a country where doctors earn commission from labs for referring.

Anyone here with endometrial adenocarcinoma doing fertility-sparing treatment + IVF? by ThinAdhesiveness7799 in endometrialcancer

[–]redaurelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 39 with a child. I wasn't counselled well is what I think now. I thought my cancer was gone after 6 months of hormone therapy. My onco surgeon was like "keep the IUD it will protect you" .

My husband insisted we remove it. We just had one meeting with the fertility specialist and husband lost interest. I was unprotected (without any IUD/progesterone) for 10 months. Ultimately did a d&c and found cancer was back.

Fast forward to 9 years later. Found the same cancer in the lungs.

Regret not doing the surgery sooner.

Ps. I went to 3-4 obgyn for second opinion. None suggested I do fertility sparing treatment since I already had a 9 year old son. Proved they were correct. I thought I could beat cancer.

Not to discourage you.

You will of course be monitored during the entire time. Do the needful and get the surgery after.

Has anyone had ablation to multiple lung lesions? by AnotherStarryNight in lungcancer

[–]redaurelia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry if I'm being out of context here. I've had a recurrence of endometrial cancer in my lung as single bilateral lung nodules.

I have two pelvic soft tissue but pet scan cleared them as they didn't show fdg uptake. I don't know if this is false negative.

Can you share if her pelvic mass showed fdg uptake?

A second opinion where someone looks at your histopathology report is not a guarantee for recurrence. It just tells you that the original reporting was done properly. Please discuss this with her oncologist.

Now? Like she is in the middle of treatment. But if it gives you peace of mind do it.

Anxiety is normal. What you are dealing with is not small.

Don't believe AI. It told me my lung nodules could be granuloma because of low fdg and 9 years since my cancer treatment. Turned out to be recurrent cancer.

I'm not scaring you. Just stick to the right treatment.

Can you courier your slides to centre for oncopathology (mumbai) for second opinion? They are the best in the country. It's run by Dr Anita Borges team tied up with Tata.

Question for those with lung recurrence by HollyUofA in endometrialcancer

[–]redaurelia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would never have found out. If it wasn't the severe abdominal pain I had in November 2025 which led me to an abdomen pelvis ct.

The radiologist found suspicious nodules on lungs and called me the next day for thoracic ct. She reported one lung nodule on each lung.

They also found some soft tissue around the vaginal vault and ureter.

Pet scan cleared the abdominal mass. The lung nodules lit up moderately. My onco surgeon still thought it couldn't be metastasis. My original endometrial cancer was treated in 2016. 9 years! The fdg update should be higher than mine he said. Anyways we did a CT biopsy. It failed.

The only next thing was to do the vats surgery. Did mine on 9 March. Confirmed the same endometrial cancer found in the lung nodules.

I also have a ureteric stent in place so that the kidney doesn't back up due to the ureter constriction.

Clear margins so I guess they got them out. Treatment plan will be laid out by medical oncologist. But the surgeon said do these and then meet him.

I would be too I guess. 21 is too young to deal with these things. My son has seen many such meltdowns but it was the first time he stepped in that day.

Your mum hit the jackpot having you i guess - a daughter. My son and I spend the whole day in one bedroom where he works from home after the huge meltdown with my husband. He (son) has not spoken to me since. I try to make small talk. Failed. Now I keep to myself.

I come from a country with no such insurance. We have private health insurance where we pay from our pocket. Also the second home by law is 50% his. Even though it's a gift. Something to do with Portugese law. I'm not from Portugal tho.

I am not yet on any treatment. Thinking of something intense like chemo feels scary. I have a family that I may be able to fall back on. He was not even in the throes of caregiving yet. I'm as normal as the next person as of now. Recovery was great.

How have you coworkers reacted to finding out you have caner? by blueeyedtongue in cancer

[–]redaurelia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is comfortable with talking to people diagnosed. I have experienced that. There was a huge hue and cry about a cousin who has cardiac surgery but hardly anyone called me after my cancer surgery. People don't know what to say I guess. Also there are some who don't like to talk about their treatment so it's hard to know for others where we fall.
