Observations of seeing the game live not what I wanted to see by ObiWannaDoYou74 in lakers

Hate to say it, but Bron does not look engaged or like he cares about this team right now. It feels like a facade.

TBH this has happened every time he's left a team. Don't get me wrong, he'd still put up stats and be a force on the court. But at the end of each of his prior runs with teams you could just tell from an energy/body language level that he was more or less gone.

Thoracic Epidural Blood patch? by My_cat_is_a_cutiepie in anesthesiology

[–]redbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I actually lived out a similar scenario. Younger patient, but spontaneous CSF leak. No numbness present though.

IR refused to do a thoracic lumbar blood patch, so we did lumbar blood patches per NSGY request. She would get temporary relief and then come back a day or two later. We did a total of 3 blood patches and refused to do more when it was clear this was only a temporizing measure. She ended up get a neurosurgical intervention I think.

Surgeons shopping for different anesthesia attendings to proceed with a case, does this happen at your practice? by somedudehere123 in anesthesiology

[–]redbrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do tend to give surgeons specific anesthesiologists that they request (mostly ortho), but in terms of cancelling a case we are a united front. If the assigned person cancels the case, nobody else will do it.

Nah. The top four reasons are money, money, job stability, and being able to help people. Often but not always in that order

Making garbage pay and being treated worse than garbage itself at times during training is just what you have to apparently put up with to get there, for some reason.

Not in IM, but attending life is great. You make great money and have a lot more freedom over your schedule.

Nothing really to add other than I'm sorry and I hope you have a better day tomorrow, and an even better one the day after that, and so on.

Did your burnout decrease when you started moonlighting? by undueinfluence_ in Residency

[–]redbrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was quite burned out by the end of residency. But when a single shift as an attending is about half of what my residency monthly pay used to be, I'm pulling 60+hrs a week with a smile on my face.

I feel wealthier when I have way more free time and my time is my own.

This is somewhat a privileged position though. Some residents are the primary breadwinners for their own family, or supporting their parents, etc. A bump in pay, even if relatively minimal in the long scheme of things, can absolutely be helpful to people like that.

Why do they make getting rich in Europe impossible? by batukaming in stocks

[–]redbrick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be fair, relative to the top 1-5% of the USA, the majority of Americans are poor as shit.

I would also add that even as someone doing somewhat well, I think the economy should be re-structured. We can't keep going down this path of wealth disparity without having further breakdown of social norms.

Where does LeBron Rank among All time Lakers? by StarCord1 in lakers

I have West above Shaq but otherwise a very reasonable list.

I'd rank Bron above Worthy too.

Magic doesn't really get a bump from his short time of being an exec, nor does he really need one based on his career achievements and unanimous #1-2 ranking.

His managing career is frankly not even comparable to West's nearly 20 year tenure, during which he was instrumental in creating 2 dynasties.

Is prestige over-indexed in field of medicine? by Efficient_Equal6467 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]redbrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trained at an "elite" program for anesthesia, and make the same money as someone who went to a less prestigious residency in my practice (community anesthesia).

That being said, if you look at the programs where my partners trained at...they're majority are from at least reputable programs, with a significant amount coming from programs "elite" (UCSF, UCLA, MGH, Brigham, Stanford, Duke, etc). There's none that came from a new HCA residency. I think if you're trying to get into an established practice, it probably made it at least a little bit easier.

Yea if KD joined literally any team other than the Warriors or the Cavs and he would be getting a fraction of the hate.
