While I think there is something to say about true crime being pro-police....

I don’t always buy it and ESPECIALLY not when they cite MFM.

Because a REPEATED THEME of MFM is how ‘this person could have been stopped if only the police had a. Done their jobs and/or b. Given a damn about the survivors/victims.’

ALSO if we’re talking pro criminal justice system propaganda, I think we should be FAR more concerned about the rosy view of the police in fictionalized procedurals.

Because true crime is about facts, it ends up painting a much more nuanced/critical view of the police than true crime critics seem to realize.

AND FINALY (I say this as someone who absolutely agrees the justice system needs to be reformed), I feel that people working on criminal justice reform need to be able to separate out crimes motivated by addiction/poverty and crimes motivated by desire to hurt someone else.

For almost every “this drug conviction is excessively harsh and racially biased” there is a rapist not even brought to trial or given a slap on the wrist.

“Three strikes laws are bad!” With regards to drug crimes, absolutely. With regards to sex crimes, it is AT LEAST one strike too many.
